I've been calling out those fans since 2006 (I was PT defender back then, still am), one more year wouldn't hurt me. It was exactly the same now as it was back then the only difference you have more places to show your dislike, RT user reviews all the sudden became "scientific" post 2016 and you can become a millionaire because you make a video laughing in a chewbacca mask (good for her).

 

Rogue One looked like a more interesting movie from the trailers.

 

Just been studying the worldwide box office figures for this opening weekend of Solo. It has officially bombed - literally everywhere - in the entire world.

 

The Last Jedi and it’s dismissive treatment of Luke Skywalker and the longtime fans of Star Wars left a bad taste in people’s mouths and this weekends box office numbers are proof of that. As I predicted at the time people are giving up on SW after TLJ. What made SW special was written out and destroyed and now people are responding by not showing up (for the record I personally liked Solo) and that’s not a coincidence...Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to “let the past die”

Solo is a bomb and I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the divisive/disrespectful Last Jedi.

Kill Rey off

 

Let’s face it, nobody wanted to see the sequels be about some character named Rey. We all wanted to see Han, Luke and Leia. The creative team and to be more specific Rian Johnson dropped the ball with The Last Jedi and it turned off a lot of fans. People are turning away from SW in droves and Solo’s box office results are proof of that.

Ultimately treating the big three as disposable characters in the SW universe may very well turn out to be the undoing of the entire franchise. Again, I blame Solo’s box office failure on The Last Jedi...Episode 9 will be lucky to make half of what TFA made.

 

JJ is just as guilty Rian. He's the one who set up Luke to be on the run/hiding. There's really not many good choices to pick from to give an explanation with that set up. Rian just happened to used the worst one of the limited possibilities.

 

This video is GREAT!

 

The only reason Luke would have been hiding is that luke felt that the First jedi temple had a secret in killing snoke who is the first dark side user.....that would have pleased fans and been true to luke.

the issue is that PLOT HAS TAKEN THE PLACE OF CHARACTERS.

rian johnson needed luke to feel like he was responsible...he didnt care if it did not really make any sense.

disposable characters...no they did much worse, they treated them as a crouch in which their entire trilogy structure centered around where they were given the most emotional scenes in the movies while the new characters ran around like idiots.

it would have been a more artistically sound decision to ditch rey and finn and centered the trilogy around kylo ren and his disdain for luke, han and leia. At least kylo has a complete story arc on his own and is pretty much already iconic to begin with(it is telling that kylo is on the best villians of all time list on empire magazine and rey isnt even given a award in the MTV movie awards)

Incompetent cowards who have no honor to take responciblity for bringing Star Wars to the brink of destruction, all of them.

 

And what is your second victory going to be? Boycott the Resistance show? Books? Comics? Episode IX is coming in December 2019. What are you going to do until then?

 

"Star Wars Fatigue" might also be a thing. It's only been 5 months since the release of TLJ, 17 months since Rogue One and 29 months since TFA.

Star Wars films used to be once every three years in the OT and PT era. Now they are more frequent, and people have become spoiled with four new films in three years. Star Wars is now no longer a rare and special thing.

 

I have not read any of the rest of the thread but the above post nails it

When the record number of sales crap started coming out you could see that The Disney Machine was in full swing

They messed up badly with RJ and TLJ and as was mentioned time and time again by many people they became arrogant and dismissive to the fan base.

The fans that didn't like TLJ were told the below on all forms of media and this site and places like Collider the below:
You are in the minority or very vocal minority
You need to watch it again
You are wrong about how they have treated the legacy characters
Disney wont miss your money
RJ made a great SW film ;-)
The numbers are down for the TLJ because its the 2nd one

And those of us who hated TLJ said the below:
We would not watch any more SW films or probably wait for the home release or some would download via torrents
We would not give any more money towards SW
We will try not to get our Children or Grandchildren invested in SW

There was some very arrogant comments made by SW fans towards SW fans who hated TLJ and i'm not saying I told you so that TLJ would hurt SW massively

But I did tell you so

What does make sense is that saying 'you can never get enough of a good thing'

TLJ was not a good thing and has left a very bad taste with many fans and the continued arrogance and dismissiveness by Disney and some of the fan base is going to make it worse as people will start getting entrenched in their views
