"Fixing" the Knights of Ren

Hopefully some day we’ll get an epic Star Wars film that we’ve been pining for, for years.

 

Unkar Plutt has as much claim to being elevated to main baddy status as the KOR.

 

Could you imagine if people used this kind of eye on ANH?

OMG I can't believe they didn't explain the clone wars in Empire Strikes Back!!! Lucas and Kershner are hacks!

 

The cool looking character who does nothing is an essential part of Star Wars. Every trilogy has one. The ST already has Phasma, so i guess they don't need another. Still, the Knights of Ren could have been so much more awesome. However, every cool character needs to look cool, and maybe have some action sequence, and then get taken out like a chump, but in a way that doesn't say much about their skill. Maul got chopped in half, but he was beating obi wan up to that point. Boba fell into the pit, but han just hit him with a lucky shot. It's not like han beat him in hand to hand combat. Phasma was bodied by a wookiee in a surprise attack. The knights of ren don't have this. In being destroyed by ben solo, it killed some of their coolness.

 

Not to mention that they initially have a sort of victory too. Maul defeated Qui-Gon. Fett trailed and was the main source behind the capture of Han. Phasma...was really ruthless on Jakku!

They could have replaced Phasma with the KoR in TLJ and it would have made for a better - and hopefully longer - fight scene. Finn fighting Phasma was so useless...

so much potential, all having cool weapons, they could be much cooler inquistors.

...even having Poe fight Phasma would have been a more interesting conflict. Poe and BB8 FINALLY get some time together, the two people who had the biggest influence on Finn fight it out, and you have the willing traitor (in Phasma) fight the eternal loyalist (in Poe). That's far more interesting IMO...

Maybe the literary bankruptcy of the Knights of Ren isn't permanent, however...

Imagine if, during the Episodes X-XII, we hear the story of a young survivor on Exegol, who grew up hearing tales of Knights, of great defenders of her once great people. S/he finds an cache of ancient weapons, lost in an ancient tomb, and with the help of some, unknown, guiding Force, ends up building a weapon only whispered in dark fairy tales and nightmares. A lightsaber. This is the journey of a youth to rebuild the Knights. The Knights of Ren.

Episode X: Grail of Fate
Episode XI: The Dark Crusades
Episode XII: Resurrection of the Light

 

I like a lot of the suggestions here, but might add that I’d start by not making them idiots.

How in the world do they see Chewie come down the rocks from Ochi’s ship and then capture Chewie and NOT somehow 1) notice Rey standing in the desert slicing up and destroying their leaders tie fighter, 2) Bother to either point out or walk up to the ship parked on top of the rock Chewie just ran down from, or 3) notice Finn yelling at the top of his lungs they needed to leave after they captured Chewie.

Not to mention that there were 2 troop transports full of Stormtroopers there that also somehow never noticed Kylo’s tie fighter getting blown up or bothered to see Ochi’s ship on top of the rocks either when they arrived or when they were leaving.

Oh, but then the Knights of Ren somehow and for some reason see Ochi’s ship, make their way back to their ship that was parked high on another mountain (boy band scene) and then follow Ochi’s ship into space, wait for it to decide to go somewhere and follow it to Kijimi - but still not know where Rey and crew were once they landed and found their winter coats....

I really enjoyed TROS but that Knights of Ren sequence was just brutal from logic standpoint and took any sense of bad-assery away from them. More like the Clowns of Ren.
