I feel in the air something quite, calm, peaceful, these last days.
I sense something huge is coming.
    The end will be epic.

Richard E. Grant could be possibly talking about one of the few multiple endings which were filmed for TROS. That's why he is not sure whether that particular ending is in final cut of TROS.

It has been rumored that at the end of TROS. Kylo Ren heals or rejuvenates Rey and sacrifices himself to save Rey.

Clip from the beginning of the movie

Seems like an ancient source of dark side evil that's been manipulating events all along, taking the form of all dead evil, like the First Evil from Buffy the Vampire Slayer would change forms and taunt.

The so-called 'Darth Ruin' from the Mizzlewump leaks of March 2014?

@MagnarTheGreat agree. We were entertaining this kind of idea yesterday after the latest tv spot drop.

    And... connection to TFA

Remember what Maz said about the forces of Evil taking new shape/forms along the centuries?
Obviously if we are right, then we're going to see the non-metaphorical version of that idea.

MAZ KANATA: The only fight. Against the dark side. Through the ages... I've seen evil take many forms. The Sith. The Empire. Today, it is the First Order. Their shadow is spreading across the galaxy. We must face them. Fight them. (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)

    J. J. Abrams: “One of the amazing things about what George Lucas created was a sense of possibility and unlimited opportunity. The world is so rich and clearly the extended universe proves that there are many more stories to tell beyond what you just saw in the six films. The idea that the fight of good versus evil would continue is already clear in the Star Wars legacy. There had been for thousands of years a fight between the dark and the light. The idea that that would suddenly stop entirely after Return of the Jedi felt disingenuous.” (December 7, 2015)

Yeah Terrio claimed it's always about the new generation fighting the old evil or something like that.

Chris Terrio: “Another guiding principle we had was there are no final victories. Every generation have to sort of take up the struggle again. Fight old evil in new forms. [So] for the epic scope of the saga, we needed to kind of expand the canvas and the palette a bit.” (December 4, 2019)
Chris Terrio: “[J. J. Abrams and I talked about the theme of no final victories and] that every generation needs to refight the old evil that really never dies.” (December 12, 2019)

@MagnarTheGreat about Terrio there's another thing

when asked about Sidius, he used words such as "presence/shadow". Additionally the way he spoke about ROTJ finale and Vader's sacrifice
made me believe... that Sidius is not "alive". That he didn't survive.
At this point I can see a kind of "dark force well" that he somehow unlocked. Or that he was about to unlock, leaving behind the trail he followed.

Also... Kylo's mask in my opinion has to do with this stuff. Especially if the voices scene comes at the beginning of the movie.
How, I cannot say. But I think there's more to that story too...

    Edit... one last thing

I remenber Isaac speaking about the long chess game played by both the Jedi and the Sith.
And I seem to remember Jj or Terrio saying pretty much the same thing.
I would say that there's more about the force ghosts as well.
Especially if all this weird stuff we're seeing and talking about is somehow connected to Mortis and Yoda arc from TCW as I believe it is. At the very least in its imaginary

    My take...

Personally, I think something along the lines we are discussing is the most satisfying way of having Palpatine be in the movie, if he really has to be in it.
I'm not too keen on the Star Wars movies referencing TCW and other EU ventures, and I don't think it's something they will do, at least not in an explicit way. For me, the movies should just reference the previous movies, and the other media feeds off that. Not the other way around, IMHO.
You can probably draw parallels, if you want to, but I don't think it will be overtly explained in those terms.

I can't help thinking (if it does pan out as you've suggested) that it may have made more sense to introduce Snoke right at the end of TFA.
What I mean by that is that we have the First Order being established as the new threat, and then we open up things up to another level right at the end, revealing there was something else behind it all, pulling the strings, that we weren't initially aware of.
Then I might have kept him as a holographic presence in the second movie, perhaps have this culminating in Kylo confronting him face to face for the first time (with the emphasis on this being something he would rarely do) and have that be a scene similar to the throne room antics we had in TLJ. But, I'd have been inclined to have this as near to the end of the movie as possible - how you'd have balanced that with the battle of Crait and Luke's appearance, I'm not sure, but then we'd be talking about a totally different movie anyway - the point is, Snoke's death would be a cliffhanger. An unexpected shift in the balance of power.

The reason I say this might have worked better for me is:
Establish Snoke as being more aloof; less hands-on; calling the shots from afar. Kylo is being tormented by the voices in his head, obeying them, resisting the light. This has made him afraid of Snoke, he thinks Snoke has control over him. When we actually meet Snoke in the flesh, he is actually pretty beat up, and not as powerful as he had seemed (to the audience, who just had him down as Palpatine V2.0 by this point).
Then we come into the third movie, and Kylo is still tormented by the voices - he still hears Vader. He still hears Snoke. He hears other voices, and he is drawn to them, fearing Snoke is somehow still alive...

I just feel Snoke was established as too powerful to be credible as just a pawn. He can flip people about like skittles from across the galaxy.
If we've solved the problem of why Palpatine's "presence" is able to be in TROS without Palpatine literally "surviving" the events of the OT, we've kind of introduced another problem (IMHO) - who was Snoke? What was his role in all of this? How could he have just been a puppet in a larger scheme when he was obviously an amazingly powerful guy in his own right?
I just think he could have been played more mysteriously to set this all up.
    Just my two cents though...

    @Get In Gear

Maybe we should start a new threat but I would say

I get your point about Snoke. But I don't think he's been a puppet. He's been himself.
And probably he was following the same trail Sidius followed to reach this place and entity.
But, this "dark force" is behind them all. And it's posing in that scene as them all.
    That's my take
