I rewatched yesterday My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I had just watched it for the first time a couple of days ago and I rewatched it with friends. I enjoyed it!

    Wait... is that cheating? :D

Had they translated the Comanche parts, but NOT the French parts... then yes!
I agree, that would have brought us closer to the tribespeople. We should be with them, experiencing everything from their perspective.
I would even gone so far as suggesting they could have done ALL dialog between the Natives in Comanche, with (optional) English subs!

I always try to watch any movie with neutral expectations, so I rarely get too dissappointed and when I do, I can safely say the movie was probably poorly made. Sometimes the hype for a movie or series is SO high, I just wait for x-amount of time before I either watch it or not.
I have steered clear from the Twilight-"saga", I started watching GoT (from the first episode) when season 4 or 5 was in full swing and then kinda binged it within a span of a week or two... :p Also the Hungergames were not seriously on my radar until way after the 4th movie came out...

The version I watched was exactly this: Dubbed in Comance with English subtitles, although the French dialogue was subtitled in French (to retain the mystery/otherness, I guess)

No thank you. Not for a Predator movie. I can understand a film that's more serious. It would be overkill for this popcorn flick.

Fair enough! So you'd agree that it kinda stinks they didn't translate the Comanche and French parts in the "English" subtitles?

The Bourne Legacy: I had mixed feelings about the movie last time I watched it, but overall now it was a good watch.

This awesome film is a mashup of Die Hard, Eastern Promises & John Wick.

Looking forward to the 14 sequels.

I was kind of in the mood for an awful movie last night and based on having watched Eight Men Out the other day (an actual good movie) my Fire Stick was suggesting this little gem

I don't even know how to classify it, it's like a Dirty Harry ripoff meets a slasher movie with some Jaws, Godfather, Ace Ventura and baseball sprinkled in. But also not as good as any of those things. It's something that should be on MST3K or Rifftrax, it's just all over the place and entertainingly awful.

The gf and I are having some friends over for a movie night, and we've chosen -- partially inspired by the ILM series on D+ -- to go old school. So, we've done Jason and the Argnauts (1963) and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), and they are absolutely fantastic :)

Jason and the Argonauts was my favorite movie as a kid. I couldn't believe how cool the special effects were with the skeleton army and our hero fighting that giant-sized statue!!! :)

In both these films the skeleton fighters are the best thing. They're the most dynamic and threatening undeads you can watch on the screen, I think. Very cool stuff.

I've also got a soft spot for Talos in JatA <3

Oh good choice! I need to rewatch that sometime! I really enjoyed it when I first saw it. It was no JB trilogy, but it was a good successor in a way.

Happy Death Day. (2017) A murder-comedy-slasher-romance Groundhog Day story. A sorority girl is killed on her birthday and must work out who is trying to kill her (and succeeds in doing so) as she learns to be a better person. You can watch the clips on YouTube and the Honest Trailers video to get 99% of the story, and that's fine. I had done so previously, so nothing new stuck out. Still it was a fun watch. 7.5/10.

    upload_2022-8-21_18-12-27.jpeg

The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U (2019) is an interesting movie. On one hand, it's a great sequel as it digs into our characters in new and interesting ways and deepens the world around us. On the other hand, it's a pretty blatant rehash of the first movie with minor changes. It's like the cast and crew wanted one type of movie while the producers and execs wanted another type. Still, it's worth a watch if you liked the first movie. 7.5/10.

    Zero Hour! (1957)
Zero Hour! was NOT the movie for me. The premise is that a veteran pilot must land a plane that contains his wife and son after the crew and staff are hit with a deadly wave of food poison. If this sounds like Airplane, it's because this is the movie Airplane was based on. I wanted to see this one before I saw Airplane, as I heard that once you see the comedy, the original won't have any dramatic weight or heft to it.
Unfortunately, this movie wasn't as engaging as I desired. I'm not sure if it was because I had just come home from a stressful first day at work, or because this is a certain type of movie (those "man in the operating tower walking you through things" movies) that I'm not a giant fan of. Either way, I'm glad to have this behind me so I can watch Airplane later this week.

I started watching Craig's last Bond film No Time To Die, the first time I've seen it since I originally saw it in the theater and I was enjoying it even less the second time and put on A View To A Kill.

Just finished this absolute jewel for the... I don't even know how many times!

The acting and direction is phenomenal and the cinematography almost playfully, ironically over the top.
But above all, the writing is absolutely insane! Oh, how I love Knives Out <3

Can’t wait for Glass Onion :D

Another movie I've owned for years but never watched, this time because it came in a Robert Redford double feature with All The President's Men that I bought. It's kind of convoluted, confusing and just sort of meanders around before petering out without a whole lot of resolution. It's a great cast and they do a good job but not enough to really make this interesting.

Finally seen Lightyear on Disney Plus. Already like Sox. I did enjoyed it. Yet. Heard some people not happy or dislike it. I hoping or maybe a movie about Woody, and why not.

Sox haven't die, it was another Sox cos Emperor Zurg was Buzz himself somehow and Zung destory Sox cos he was a traitor, but still sad it got killed off but Main Sox still around and be one of my favourite characters of Lightyear and Disney.

Also seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness no Disney Plus, it was okay but same time not enjoyed it.

There surprice appearnce of Mr Fantastic, Captian Carter and Professor Xaviar, Not fan of Captain Carter and now Marvel/Disney may use her more or not Captain Britian or/and Union Jack in many Marvel movies or series. My brother say I may not like it cos there so many deaths, but brave seen it and it not that bad for me, it was little much. But it was fun

It didn't notice Thor Love and Thunder, what that about it. I go for Superhero/Comic Book movies but not all like Fantastic Four before got by Disney and latest Suicde Squad.

What you are looking at is a short animated movie made by Glenn Marshall which was made using artificial intelligence. The method employed was he took a source video of an interpretive dancer and then gave a prompt setting to the AI to reimagine the video as crows in a dystopian environment.

It has won Cannes Film Festival's Best Short Short award.

I do not agree with Marshall's provocative asserting that AI will remove industry jobs. It won't because that's not how the industry of art works - we still sell paintings artists make, even though there's been countless evolutions above it as an art medium since then. Art has a capacity to swell laterally not just vertically. So unlike factory assembly industries where AI removes jobs because it can only tolerate vertical growth, art can have AI movies pumping out right along side traditional movies and it's not a replacement anymore than CGI's relationship to 2D animation. It didn't kill it - it just became another category.

And that's because art is an industry because humans want to do it, not because it's what they have to do to pay the bills. And that makes a vast difference. There are plenty of money keepers who are in the industry because they can't do the art, but they love the art, so they want to invest in the art.

Of course everyone wants to make money, but no one in big business makes money by focusing on one thing and one thing only. That's known suicide. They invest in multiple mediums simultaneously because human audiences aren't single source consumers when it comes to art. Even one person has multiple moods they go through. Heck, TCM basically banks on the idea that a fair enough amount of humans will want to rewatch really old art - and they're right. People do.

So, that out of the way - this is really cool because what you are looking at is an AI version equivalent to what took a ridiculous amount of time to accomplish for A Scanner Darkly, but in this case, it's being done by one artist who spent time tailoring and configuring it to work out pretty well. It's about on par with those short animations of the early 1980's that were drawn in charcoal and pastels and set to music interpretatively.

    Cheers,
    Jayson
