Ridley standalone. Never thought of that possibility. I could see that.

I hate it. It looks like a B movie trailer. That sex scene, or whatever that was in the shower with the xenomorph is AVPR level cheesiness. I gave up on these movies after watching Prometheus, so I had no expectations whatsoever, but this is unbelievably bad. Ridley Scott needs to stop before these trainwrecks make people forget about his masterpieces. Yes I'm being negative, I'm still mad about Prometheus and I'll always be, that....."movie" is the reason why I never trust a trailer or go into a theater expecting a good movie anymore. It managed to ruin all my future movie viewing experiences.
You know what, now that I think about it, this trailer might be intentionally bad. The one for Prometheus was too good, raising expectations too high. Maybe they're hiding a decent movie behind a bad trailer this time. I don't care anyway, my hatred for this franchise knows no bounds at this point, so I'll never watch a new Alien movie ever again no matter how good I hear it is, I'm DONE. But fans who hate this trailer and still want to watch the movie should keep in mind that it might not be so bad after all.

I hate Prometheus with a hot burning passion, and I wasn't expecting it to be a prequel. All I knew was that the action was going to take place in the Alien universe, and that we might not get to see xenomorphs at all. And I was perfectly fine with that, I don't love the first movie because it has an awesome monster in it, I love it because of how the monster is used. Great direction, great characters, great pacing, great world building. Alien is a masterpiece of suspense and terror. But Prometheus....I don't even know where to start discussing its flaws. Probably because to this day I can't believe that this movie failed in so many ways. Cardboard characters, messy storyline, raising questions that have no answers in an attempt to create an illusion of depth, plot holes....the list goes on and on. The one thing this movie has going for itself is its stunning visuals. But that doesn't mean anything for me personally. Prometheus is like a stunningly beautiful but extremely stupid person, nice to look at but mighty boring after a few minutes. But I do respect other people's opinions, so don't take anything I said personally. All I say comes from a place of never ending hate and contempt, but it's directed at the movie, not its fans. To each their own. I hate Guardians of the Galaxy too, (possibly even more than Prometheus lol) but there must be a reason why it has so many fans.

Ok here's what I have learned. The title Paradise Lost was dropped for Alien Covenant:

    2016-12-27 13_27_16-Capture.png

David is going to be on the new planet which seems to belong to the Engineers and I assume that the ship that we see crashed in the trailer is the one Elizabeth and David used. There are rumors hanging around the internet (must be taken as anything said on the web) that maybe the reason we haven't seen Shaw yet might be that David might have pulled another fast one and she might be a new creature like he did to her boyfriend. This of course is just rumors and we don't know for sure. For all we know she might even have been experimented on by the Engineers as I'm pretty sure they weren't going to take it lightly when she (being from a race they want to eradicate) just popped out of nowhere demanding answers.

I don't know where all this talk about the movie not being a proper sequel to Prometheus is coming from. Does the movie feature a Xenomorph? Sure, but that doesn't mean it is diverging from their intended storyline. Everything I've read about the film suggests that it is still following up on the plot threads they set up about the Engineers and everything else related to them.

As for the Xenomorph appearing and Alien being used in the title, I have no doubt that the reason for that is because they want to draw back fans who may have been disappointed with Prometheus. Regardless of your own feelings on the movie, it's no secret that the movie was incredibly divisive and unpopular with a large chunk of the fans. Besides, everything I've read implies that the creepy looking Neomorphs we see in the concept art are going to be the primary threats in the film.

NO,NO,NO,NO,NO! DON'T YOU DO THAT DAVID! I loved Shaw in Prometheus! She had a JERK for a boyfriend so I did mind him getting knocked off. I was kinda hoping Idris Elba would hook up with her:D ( I know I would!!). But still, I hope that's not true about her character.:(

it looks alright, i guess, but nothing to get me all that excited or mollify me over the decision to push back the alien sequel with ripley, newt and hicks in favor of this. but we'll see, hopefully it surprises me.

I really don't think the reason they are using the classic Xeno's has nothing to do with drawing fans back but more with following the story. The Aliens we all know and love are bio-weapons like the monsters in Resident Evil and the same with those monsters, many like the Hunter and the Tyrant have evolved throughout the series. The very first time we saw those monsters they were wild creatures that once they were unleashed they would kill anything and everything that crossed their path. After a time we would see Hunters that worked alongside machines that would signal the creatures on where to attack properly and Tyrants that had a Mister X form that completely followed orders from it's creators.

The thing that was born from Shaw was a huge Facehugger and the Deacon was the first step in creating the Aliens which we saw that had already gone wrong once before and these creatures had wiped out the Engineers from Prometheus. That's why I have always seen the mural in the movie as a huge warning sign that the humans didn't understand and David conveniently decided to keep to himself.

You can see the Deacon right there so I'm pretty sure this was an unstable bio-weapon that the Engineers had worked on but failed and needed to improve. I tend to think that the Neomorphs we are going to see are the second attempt at the perfect bio-weapon and these will finally lead to the classic Alien xeno's. When you look at it that way, the story in Prometheus flows nicely with the Alien movies instead of straying from it like many people said it did. Sometimes fans judge things to harshly if a story moves at a slow pace but then they are angry as well when the story is rushed. Many times in which I have argued about things I disliked about TFA, I have gotten the classic answer that I have to wait till the other movies come out so that many elements in TFA could make sense so I think that is the very line of thought that many fans should have on this series.

I agree on where things are going. I still think that the decision to have Alien in the title of the film and to show a Xenomorph in the trailer was a calculation on the studio's part. Nostalgia is a powerful thing after all ;).

I agree that seeing the classic Xenomorph sure does pump us alot! Now, if the rumor of Ripley and Hicks coming back for Alien 5 is also true then we are in for a wonderful ride! I really don't care if they eliminate Alien 3 and 4 or if they make it turn out to be some sort of weird dream but I really hope that this is true and that Newt is also alive. I will miss the Newborn though as that thing was creepy and awesome!

To be played at maximum volume with a kettle boiling up some background steam, while you frantically run around your home/spaceship searching for a cat you do not own named 'Jonesy'.

    ;)

I was a bit disappointed by Prometheus but I still liked it. (vader 2)

As far as Covenant goes, I'm psyched. I can't help but half glass full this trailer and think "atleast Ridley is at the helm and it's not a sequel to Robin Hood."

    New trailer

We get to see a lot more of the Xenomorph in this one, plus a little of the Neomorph.

I watched Alien Covenant a while ago and was wondering if any of you guys and gals here in the Cantina already saw the movie and wanted to talk about it. Did you like it? Did you find it awful? Do you think that it did justice to the Alien saga? Let me know what you think!

I warn everybody that this post is to talk about the movie so if you haven't seen it yet and are planning to then keep away! Listen to what the Deacon has to say:
