SPECULATION Baylan Skoll

There's definitely an ulterior motive at play, one in which Baylan & Shin (and Marrok?) stand to gain something more than monetary compensation.

One theory I've seen bat around is that it may have something to do with how the Chimaera still has that portion of the Lothal temple that Ezra destroyed onboard. Not really sure what he'd be able to do it with it, since it's rubble, but it's an interesting thought.

Baylan/Shin have their own motives, and I expect they differ both from Morgan's... which I'm sure differ from the Empire's... which I'm sure don't ally with Thrawn's.

Lots of unrest in the Imperial Remnant right now, yet we still know that somehow they manage to forge together The First Order all the same.

 

If anything, Morgan and the Imperial Remnants are more of a means to an end for them. Otherwise I imagine Baylan has no love for an Empire that once would've had him executed, even if Thrawn does present himself as a different kind of leader than Palpatine, Vader, or Tarkin were.

 

Wouldn't it be nice... if Baylan made a new friend.​

Yeah something is going on with him. Personally, I think the good in him will come to benefit Ashoka. I’m not sure how, yet, just a hunch. I don’t think he’s really out to ‘get her’, certainly not to the extreme that he’s being hired for.

My thoughts are, that nobody knows what lies beyond the galaxy except for finding Thrawn, even tho lot of people are focused on that with their theories, but if Thrawn and Ezra can't get out and it takes so much effort to go there, I guess that there are no plot links at this moment, that stretch from Peridea to the old galaxy – like the infamous Inquisitor is Ezra, etc.
I believe that the only known thing in the next galaxy will be Ezra, Thrawn, Chimaera and bunch of Stormtroopers, either dead, alive or both.

With Baylan, I wouldn't be surprised, if his reasons are similar to Sith, but without being absolut and selfish power monger. He wants fair and just galaxy with order and views the status quo as cycles of chaos and evil. The bureaucracy and unflexibility of the Republic have effectively lead to the destruction of Jedi order and rise of the evil Galactic Empire being deceived easily by the Sith, to be again reborn after harsh fighting as the same, bureaucratic New Republic and that will probably lead to rise of another evil and this will continue forever (again with First Order). Baylan probably believes that Thrawn might be the answer and I wonder, if Baylan has power aspirations to lead the change himself (not dissimilar to C'Baoth, altho he was crazy clone) and it seems it is so, with Thrawn being the supreme commander of Baylan's Empire forces. Which might work as Thrawn doesn't really have ruling aspirations... or at least didn't from what I've read in the new trilogy of books (I have just read the first half of the Ascendency book and didn't finish the second trilogy).
He clearly despises Anakin and seeing how the mighty have fallen, it might be interesting what Baylan's view or take on revised Jedi Order would be, as he clearly is still Jedi complete with apprentice, tho fallen from the point of view of our heroes... or there is probably more we haven't seen.

It also looks that Baylan has some force skill of enhanced empathy, as he can clearly read through the facts and motivation of others and not in a cryptic way of just sensing fear, hesitation nor other more vague and basic impulses. He also regretted possibly killing Ahsoka and sensed her movement through time and space.

 

Why does this line sound so amazing?

I believe Baylon wants a new purpose. He doesn't care if there is a war or not. I believe he just wants some action. If power comes along with that then it's just a bonus.
