Ahh come on, ET might not have the same pop culture impact as SW, I'm not sure any other movie has...

But I think ET is still well beloved and there are lots of references out there.. for example: https://www.teepublic.com/tees/et
You might say that the younger generations haven't seen it, though... But it has also not been "updated" like what happened with the SW prequels..

My point exactly. On the other had we can look at films that are not related to pop culture like Lawrence of Arabia or Citizen Kane which acquired greatness because they are timeless and feature somewhat troubled protagonists we can all relate to.

(I also strongly recommend watching Citizen Kane, fast-paced, witty, humorous and cleverly edited. Featuring Joseph Cotten as Gary Kurtz and Awesome Welles as George Lucas - in a certain manner of speaking) ;-)

Actually there was a Special Edition of E.T. that came out in 2002. It had some bathtub scene that was previously unfinished, and when the police were pointing guns at Eliot and E.T., the guns were changed to walkie talkies. I'm sure there were more changes, but I can't remember.

Really? I did not know that!

I guess there goes half my argument :p
but the main point was more on the side of the iconic scenes are still around in pop culture, like the bike over the moon or the glowing finger, are still being mashedup and used as reference...

Wow! You have no idea how much I envy you. Was the first (and only) time in my life I seriously considered getting up and leaving a theater near the end of the film. My Star wars buddies and me had come together to shoot a documentary, in the theater's lobby I revolted to such an extent, that the theater personnel was about to call the cops. Haven't watched the raw documentary footage ever since.

Ha! Yes. Envy me. For me, Vader has not still not yet been ruined for me.

It should be three strikes you're out, but the first two were so awful that I just couldn't be bothered to waste two hours of my life that I wouldn't get back.

And Vader is STILL a great character for me, as I have heard and seen things from Revenge of the Sith about the great man.
