A full bodied CGI Tarkin --- hell no.

A few options I'd be fine with:
-Small hologram Tarkin, whether CGI or taken from ANH.
    -A new actor.
    -No Tarkin.

I'm sorry, but this is creepy looking! I could handle a CGI Tarkin in a hologram but no more!

ROTS UTILIZED make up and so should this...unless they used freaking Bradely Cooper to play Tarkin and then CGI would be cheaper .

I think we would all love to see Tarkin on the big screen again but would CGI or a look alike actor be able to have the same impact as Peter? Is Tarkin being in the film really essential to telling the story. Tarkin was brought in to oversee the construction, then command the Death Star, but what role did he plan in the plans. I don't know which way R1 will go with this story. Maybe it would be neat to see the attacks on Sentinel Base and some of the construction of the Death Star but by doing that, R1 carries over into the story from Tarkin. I don't see them doing that.

Yeah that Episode 3 Tarkin makeup was bloody awful. Yes, Cushing had a thin face with protruding cheekbones. He did not look like a freaking zombie.

I think actor Ralph Fiennes would do great, with just a little makeup. I agree with other posters who suggested yes he had dominate high cheek bones, but not so much that he looked like and alien. A little CGI might work, like Douglas in Antman. I would prefer an actor, possibly an unknown, to pull it off. Tarkin was one of my favorite characters in SW. I would also like to see older officers in the Imperial forces. That was something I felt was missing in TFA, was older seasoned officers walking around Starkiller, like was present on the Death Star.

I knew people would say that, but I'm not on board with that idea. And if that was the truly the writer's thinking, I still don't agree. The original Death Star was a newly minted ship, as one of the officers stated it was now the ultimate power in the universe, and it was later confirmed that it had not even been fired yet, and still, there were many seasoned officers assigned to the DS. I think having some older officers walking around to mentor the youths would have been a nice touch, and make it seem more realistic. I mean, it took some time to assemble this fleet and built Starkiller base, it wasn't a bunch of 20 year olds knocking it out in a year.

they did it fairly will years ago with the TRON film. It's possible that the CGI has gotten better.

    remains to be seen

While character of Tarkin fits in Rogue One - it's just before ANH and he is the boss of Death Star project, I don't think CGI is so advanced to completely recreate human being (uncanny valley, anyone?), especially particular human being. Plus, yes, recreating Peter Cushing is creepy as hell.

If he has to appear, he should appear as hologram - they can doctor Cushing's old tapes and find someone to mimic his voice. Plus, this is old-time (SW old time) bluish hologram which could mask any imperfections. Otherwise, don't do it - Vader is enough.

This video just popped up saying an actor will be cast and Cushings face CGI'd on top of said actor. Grain of salt. Maybe more.

I am skeptical this can be rendered effectively, but I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. The visual crafting in both the CGI sets, CGI characters, real sets, real masks were great. What TFA lacked I think lies firmly on JJ's "explain nothing and it is everything" reductive style, rehash old franchise sequences with an alternate polarity as much as possible, but that's way off topic, apologies.

Rogue One will adopt all that really shined in TFA: diversity, personal perspective and sublime use of real sets and masks and set pieces that look lived in, a brisk moving pace and a firm understanding of the models and toys that help sell the brand at the toy store. Because of that track record, I think Tarkin will be handled well, if only to establish just exactly why Vader is on his leash by the end of the film.

My big hope is the film literally ends with the news that the plans have been beamed to a certain consular ship and Vader promising to "take care of it personally..."

I remain thrilled to see this and just really happy to see Star Wars thrive like this. Glad many of us old-timers lived to see it.

Of course it would be creepy as hell. Peter Cushing was one of the creepiest actors of all time. I just want to see in the credits "and from BEYOND THE GRAVE ... Peter Cushing"

Anyone seen Ant-Man? That contains a flashback scene with a young Michael Douglas. I thought it was pretty convincing on the whole.

A fully CG Tarkin sounds like a bad idea - if they do go this route I hope they've hired a person which a similar height, build and facial structure which CG is layered on top.

It does make some sense to have Tarkin, as well as it does to have Vader. I just hope we'll get another admiral we haven't seen before.
