There were a few who took the concept art to be female, but I don't think any rumors have surfaces to support that gender. All of the "confirmed" rumors seem to indicate that the Warlord is Luke..

Hah - probably already been pointed out, but I've only just noticed that this version of Montross has protocol droid parts...

Not for nothin, but I gotta ask... the dude is a cyborg, so we accept he has robotic parts. But you specify that they are not only droid parts, but protocol droid parts... do you have some info on this, or are you just going off the look of them?

Not saying it means anything, just saying the artist has clearly used the familiar 3PO droid look for reference in this variation. Purely an observation.

:D Love how I got an "off topic" for discussing concept art in the concept art thread too there!

Ahhh.... I get where you were going with that now... yeah, it does look the same, doesn't it?

And for the record, I didn't think you were off topic either...

Hah - no wasn't implying it was you.
Just amused me, given the places this thread has already gone to... (and now I am getting off topic...)

Can't see Sigourney as Mara myself, but as the big baddie, hell yeah.

For reference, watch her Emmy Award nominated performance in Snow White: A Tale of Terror. Sigourney can be creepy and evil if she needs to be.

That is interesting. So the concept art that I thought was of a female is the same as the Warlord? I'd be interested in knowing more about the Warlord. Any other threads that go into it that you could direct me to?

Also, do you know anything about the fight taking place outside in the snow with Ridley, lightsaber-villain, and that guy who's on the ground? Is the guy who looks like a villain holding the lightsaber also interpreted as being the Warlord?

Thank you for your reply, mecano!! I go back and forth on which order they should be viewed in.

TIDMADT, what is known about this "Warlord" title? I've forgotten it's origin. Also, what are your thoughts on it's significance?

You are joking, right? I hope no one loose his mind to mix carrtoon and live action characters. Plus, I had enough changes and additions to OT by Mr. Lucas, no need to return bck there and modify the story yet one more time....

I think it is easy to get carried away with all the spin-off stuff, and start speculating about how it might tie into the new movie.

The thing is, history has shown: when there is something happening in a novel, or a cartoon, or whatever that feeds into an upcoming movie... there will be no need to speculate about it.
Because the marketing machine will ram that stuff right down our throats.
I mean, that is what it is there for. If character X in an upcoming novel or episode of Rebels or whatever is in some way relevant to Episode VII - even slightly - Disney/Lucasfilm/Bad Robot, or whoever, will be yelling about it in a big way from the get go. Because the only reason they would do something like that is to market the movie and generate hype.

I'm sorry, but I've been playing this game way too long - they are not just going to sneak characters and plot points relevant to Episode VII into spin-off media like this secretly... or by accident. It just doesn't work like that.

    Hah.
Seriously though - did anyone have to guess that General Grievous was going to be part of Episode III, back when he was just a Clone Wars cartoon character and the subject of an upcoming novel etc? No, because Lucasfilm made a big effort to let us know that he was.
It's not going to be any different this time around. Think about it - it makes no sense for them to casually slip something into Rebels (for example) that is giving away plot details from their closely-guarded plot. They are in control here, they just aren't going to do that...

I would have to respectfully disagree. I don't think they will cram anything down our throats having to do with episode VII for a bit still. We haven't seen a trailer or even have a byline for the movie yet. Not saying any of the characters will tie in...Just saying it is way to early to speculate correctly. They have over a year to 'cram' whatever character down our throat.
My personal opinion is the Rebels characters at least at this point are to insignificant to the whole 'Star Wars Universe' to put into the feature film.

Might have been mentioned already but does anyone else think the villain looks a whole lot like Malgus in that pic??

It does look like Malgus, particularly the style of his upper-torso armor. I didn't consider him/her to even be human at first because of the elongated head. Kind of looks like a cone-head.

My question is, though, what is that thing around the lower part of his face? It looks like a breathing mask of sorts, but the closer I look at it it looks like it's something hovering in the air by his face since it seems to be off to the side of his face.

My second thought on it is that it's a piece of debris he's force-throwing at Daisy. That hand in the air looks like he's doing something with the force.

I've never seen Calvary, but Dredd might not be the best example of Gleeson as a bad guy. He was great in that role, but he was a victim being terrorized into doing things clearly against his will. He was meek and anything but threatening. However, I wouldn't doubt he could play a mighty fine bad guy.

We don't know that motives or character of the grave robber, but we do know that Domhnall Gleeson is a talented actor and has played creepy guys in the past, whatever their motivation.
