It's obvious by now that J.J. is playing things rather safe by taking things back to the basics of the OT in terms of story telling and film making, which got me thinking; will Coruscant appear at all in the sequel trilogy?

Coruscant has played such an important role in the EU stories and the general politics of the Star Wars Universe. I imagine it would be quite difficult to exclude such an important planet from the newer stories, perhaps Disney/Lucasfilm are planning to eliminate the planet altogether along with its prequel baggage.

We recently found out that 'Hosnian Prime' is supposedly where the New Republic was established after the events of ROTJ. It seems weird to me that they would newly introduce this planet into the canon purely for this sole purpose, unless J.J. and Kasdan felt restricted by the politics of Star Wars when it came to writing a new authentic story.

It's been established that the First order has a super weapon more powerful than both of the Death Stars. This made me wonder, what if Coruscant gets destroyed in TFA by the Starkiller base. It would seem like a worthwhile target for the First Order to strike at. Perhaps they've been planning this counter attack against the Republic from the far edges of the Outer Rim, where they've most likely been hiding all these years. This would no doubt bring about total chaos and fear throughout the galaxy, igniting the flames of war.

(Weapon being fired at something from across the horizon?)

I think this would be a good way to kick off the trilogy and carve the motivations of the resistance. This is all purely speculation of cource, but I'd personally rather see the destruction of Coruscant, opposed to the planet never being mentioned at all.

But I'm curious, what do you guys think? :D

I feel like Coruscant would probably be the strongest Imperial hold out after the Battle of Endor. If there is any Imperial remnant or if the First Order evolved from one, I feel like Coruscant would make a logical capital for them.

I've seen this recently and I'm confused, because in Aftermath we see the beginning of the New Republic and the provisional government and senate is on Chandrilla, Mon Mothma's home world. (At the time there is still a fair bit of fighting going on on Coruscant).

Personally I would love to see, maybe in episode 8 or 9, some house to house, street to street, level to level, fighting on Coruscant. Maybe it could be in ruins from the galactic civil war.

I've never really thought about it like that.

Based on the riot in the capital and the fall of the Palpatine statue witnessed at the end of the Special editions, I kinda assumed the New Republic would eventually take back the planet back over the next 30 years.

That'd be a nice way to use Coruscant. Maybe in Ep. VIII, Poe and Finn have to root out some First Order operatives / former Imperial sympathizers on the gritty, war-ravaged streets of the defunct galactic capital.

I'd love to see what's been going on in Coruscant over these years, so I'm all for it making an appearance. I especially like the ideas others on this thread created about having battles across a ruinous cityscape. Now THAT would be fun to watch!

Even though it might be tricky, I hope they can find a way to include Coruscant and other PT elements in the ST. Just because the PT is controversial among fans, if it's canon, they shouldn't completely ignore it's existance.

The end of ROTJ makes it seem like Coruscant would be one of the first to fall.... but I've read a few pages from the new canon that contradict this line of thinking. Given the galactic view of the capital in TPM, I expect it to be a charred mess by the time TFA rolls around, with nothing but rubble left from a city that once engulfed a planet.

I would like it if they explored the ruins of the Jedi Temple. Just because.

Coruscant didn't appear in the OT, either. It's not absolutely necessary to include it just because it's the capital of the New Republic or the First Order.

Side note: Has 'Hosnian Prime' been confirmed as the New Republic capital anywhere? I know it was revealed as a planet appearing in TFA, but my assumption was that it is Luke's planet (i.e. Skellig Michael).

The capital of the New Republic is Chandrila.

I really don't want to see Coruscant other than perhaps hearing a mention of it. It has been done..

Maybe IX could end with a return to Coruscant?

A ruined Coruscant would be awesome. It shows that the galaxy actually changes.

Coruscant is one of my favorite Star Wars planets. I want that planet back in ST.
