Son of Dathomir, adapted from unmade episodes of The Clone Wars, is a four comic series, and continues where the Darth Maul stories left off with him being held prisoner by Sidious on Stygeon. Darth Sidious sees Mother Talzin as a threat and plots to destroy her. Maul joins forces with the Mandolorians and wields the darksaber from former Mandolorian Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla.

I liked the way they portrayed Maul and Dooku's relationship to Sidious, both being apprentices to Sidious. Bringing the darksaber back was a nice choice of weapon for Maul. A Sith Infiltrator that Maul uses in The Phantom Menace has a cloaking device.

I had a few problems with this, 1: Seeing Sidious being with Greivous or Confederate forces makes me wonder how Palpatine, being the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, could pull this off during war time, without being missing. 2: Seeing how easy it was to capture Dooku or Grievous but how hard it is for the Jedi. 3: It never finishes Maul's story, it seems that the series was cut short and not properly finished.

Is this canon? It came out after the eu purge and doesn't carry the legend banner, but is dark horse not marvel so...

    Any insight appreciated

Though I recommend using a larger tablet if you go that route. On my android, I really struggled to read some of the texy.

Just finished this series! Fantastic! I really hope Marvel is taking notes, because they have some big shoes to fill.

Just caught up with this one. It has some superb action and dialogue! It's left me wondering whether they plan to pick the story up in Rebels or elsewhere, or just call it a day!

So I got it, read it...was left sad. It really is more of a cliff hanger ending than one would like. The art rocked, and I always love seeing Dooku.

I am more so curious how the rights-deal is going to work between DH written comics and Marvel, and what Disney plans to do with the clone wars stories now...there is still such a large gap and so many characters left unfinished.

Just happened to re-read this last night. One of my favorites. The art is so-so but the layout is excellent. The additional backstory for Sidious/Maul/Talzin is the side of GL I love most - deep mythology, like primitive folklore. Great stuff, a shame we didn't get to see it animated.

I definitely agree about the mythological side to GL's storytelling. I worry that we may lose that, but we can hope to the contrary! Although a lot of people slate the PT for almost everything, I also really liked the almost poetic tragedy of the story and I think that tragic element comes through in Son of Dathomir. You really see Maul being crushed and defeated bit by bit. I would love to see him come back by some medium to throw all his cards on the table in attempt to take Palpatine down only to get hit down hard and die.

When ever Sidious gets involved in a story, it gets good. Reminds you why they should not have canceled the clone wars, there were more stories to conclude and there already was a base audience. 2 more seasons could have wrapped up certain arcs. Instead they were released as comics and books, unfinished videos n youtube. A tragedy for sure but I'm happy to get the stories in whatever form. These should have been show piece episodes for the rare glimpses we get at all the different dark siders and their dynamics with each other. Which make it worth the read just for that alone.
