SPECULATION Death-Star Destroyer Fleet

One of the biggest "wow" moments in the new TROS trailer is the shot with the massive Star Destroyer fleet. I'm very intrigued by it. There is a lot of speculation about who is in charge of this formation of ships. I've heard everything from the Resistance finding an old abandoned fleet of them and using them against the First Order, to it being the Sith Fleet. I don't think anyone knows for sure at this point, but one thing is certain; these ships are 100% the Imperial Star Destroyer design from the OT era (I-Class by the look of the tractor beam array, which means it's possible that they're very old).

My thought is that they are the Sith Fleet and have returned from an unknown location and could be run by skeleton crews. There hasn't been much luck with massive super weapons in Star Wars, so possibly, whoever is in charge of this fleet has learned from others' mistakes (or possibly their own? *cough cough... Palpatine*).

Outfitting Star Destroyers with Death Star technology could be very effective. If each destroyer was outfitted with smaller lasers similar to the Death Star's eight beams that fire together and focus into a single larger beam, it would nearly be the ultimate super weapon. Considering how tough of a time the Resistance had destroying a single Dreadnought in TLJ, I can't imagine them taking on this massive fleet of destroyers and surviving. Even if they wiped out half the fleet, the destroyers would still be incredibly powerful.

There's also a scene in the trailer that shows a red beam destroying the surface of a planet. My guess is that this beam is from the concentrated "focus" firing of the destroyer fleet. It's possible that the beam is red to match the red color scheme of the Sith Troopers. I also think it's interesting that the fleet is in a nebulous type location. This could be an incredible visual moment for the film if the destroyers do fire red beams, which would light up the ships and the gaseous clouds around them bright red - potentially resulting in a very effective visual moment.

It's very possible that this is simply a fleet of normal Star Destroyers, but I thought the idea seemed cool! Does anyone have any other theories about these ships? Who's in command and what their purpose is?
