Star Wars was originally conceived as having been told to the Whills by R2-D2 sometime in the future, which is why it carried the "from the Journal of the Whills" tagline originally. I have never heard that Coruscant was supposed to be Earth, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sence since "Coruscant" as a word was invented by Timothy Zahn aroun 1990. In early drafts of RotJ, the Imperial capital world was called Had Abbadon.

I read this book as soon as it came out. It was like a treasure. I kept that copy for years. I'm surprised it never made it to live action.
Like many people have complained, Kathleen Kennedy repeatedly said 'there's nothing to work with to create anything new', and the whole SW fan community is SCREAMING 'YOU KILLED THE ENTIRE EXTENDED UNIVERSE YOU CORPORATE MORON!!!!!'

Problem when one company owns a lot of franchises, they start focusing on quantity rather than quality. Years ago, I vividly remember an angry X Men fan cancelling all of his comics subscriptions after Disney bough Marvel....he referred to the company as 'that decaying mouse'.

We missed seeing Bantha Rawk on film, Cade's mom be shady, Darth Krayt be evil, Karness freaking Muur be ancient & cheating death for crying out loud.

Most important, we missed Cade's trip to the family homestead.

It's funny that you mention this and live action. Splinter of the Mind's Eye was actually George Lucas' backup plan in case Star Wars wasn't successful. It's an interesting story. Lucas asked Alan Dean Foster to write a sequel novel to Star Wars but with limitations: No Han Solo and no space battles. This was because he thought he might still make a less expensive sequel that he believed Harrison Ford would not return for and space battles were a huge expense. If Star Wars had flopped, you might have gotten a live action Splinter of the Mind's Eye. I think there's more to it than what I mentioned, but that's the gist of it.

I think the novel (or maybe an early draft of the script) had Obi Wan mention a duck. Luke asked what that was and Obi Wan said "Never mind" or something.

No. They didn’t fight. They were just torched.
