Disney ending the Skywalker Story??

well its basically official now - Disney don't care about the Skywalker name - the evidence is with Rey, Luke, and Super Leia. looks like 1-6 are films that do care, and to counter what Rieekan has said - the Skywalker name became important as soon as Old Ben mentioned it in ANH, further exemplified when the 'twist; happens in ESB. the Prequels obviously care about the Skywalkers - and maybe a little too much! but the same cannot be said with the Disney films, unfortunately.

 

There was a wonderful theory years ago that I think could be very beneficial to Disney.

It makes the Skywalker name more than just about a bloodline.

The theory posed that Skywalker was essentially a slave/gypsy name. It was the name given to those who were poor, nomadic, enslaved.

Those people were Skywalkers. If this were delved into, Rey could technically be a Skywalker without the genetic connection to Luke. Maybe rather than ending the Skywalker Saga, they are changing what it means to be a Skywalker.

 

@BaserCreatures, Definitely something to think about. Not bad. Although if they did that, they might have to retcon the special supernatural circumstances surrounding Anakin's birth, which I guess they easily could do somehow. Perhaps an Anthology film or book with Shmi as a character. Perhaps she was just embarrassed because Anakin was born out of wedlock, or maybe she deliberately misled Qui-Gon for reasons we have yet to discover.

 

They definitely could fix that if they needed to. But I don't think it is really completely necessary. He was still a slave born in a supernatural circumstance. His name didn't really have any impact until he rose to power. A freed slave.

 

Regardless of how it all turns out, I'm hoping Rey at least takes the name Skywalker. I think that'd be pretty cool. I definitely like the idea though.

Could Ben already have a kid out there somewhere?

Like Anakin, could he have had a child before he turned?

Maybe that's why we have a non Skywalker as the main character in the sequel trilogy: because she will become part of the Skywalker family just like Padmé and Han.

Nah, I don't buy for a second that Rey isn't Lukes daughter unbeknownst to him.

Everyone expected Reys parantage to be revealed in the second movie because empire did it. Imo RJ just didn't feel that the revelation itself was nessesary to the story at hand; only that Rey was still hanging on to the idea of meeting her parents in hopes it would give her an answer to where she belongs.

The scene of Rey and Ben fighting for Anakins lightsaber to me felt like it was meant to be symbolic of Anakin's grandchildren fighting for ownership of his legacy or something.


I admit, I'll be genuinely shocked if the ST ends with Rey remaining as 'no one'.

 

I think six films was enough. They should have thought of something new for the ST.

Didn't think anything had to say could hold up. But, I'll give it a 'go' anyhows, with a bit of 'real world' coz SW has a bit of that, right ?
And in my usual long-winded way .

So, in my family that is my last name (Sirname) I have a younger brother and a half sister. Also only two other cousins, both girls.
I have 3 daughters (oldest is married away), my brother has no children-and isn't gonna.
So, Unless my middle and youngest daughters Don't get married...
Guess what ?

... yeah yeah ... I can guess at what some may say or ask, Yes there's other folk 'round the world that also have the same Sirname as me - No relation ... but that's Not my point.

So to me ?
It is alright that the Skywalker end.
ALL Things (save for one) Do.
And it's alright that it's in the Story we All Love.

 

Why, so everyone can complain Han, Luke and Leia never got an appropriate on screen send off? Because that's ALL that would happen if LFL came out and started this ST 100 years in the future and Carrie passed. Good god that'd be unbearable.

FFS we are dealing with people complaining about not just one of the coolest Star Wars moments, but legitimately one of the best shot scenes EVER, because Admiral Maclunkey Ackbar died in a different scene and wasn't in that one.

Forgetting how narrative wise Ackbar being there doesn't work and could actually make things more nonsensical (as far as "sense" in Star Wars goes) or how the voice actor of Ackbar passed away in early 2016.

 

Rey is not a Skywalker, The director himself said that her parents are NOT in the movies.
But that doesn't mean that there couldn't be a secret Skywalker somewhere.

 

There is somewhat of a differnce if LFL "ends" the Skywalker "story".

OR.

"Kills off" the Skywalker "family".

 

Not really.
Everyone dies. No one lives forever.
Mark Hamill will die
Harrison Ford will die
Carrie Fisher died.

Do you want them to have on screen send offs or have everyone have to be figured out like Leia will unfortunately be for the next film

Not only is Kylo the last (probably) Skywalker but the last Solo, Lars & Organa 2.

Does LFL want an ending that bleak for these 4 space famlies?
