    Warning,this thread contains spoilers from new canon novel "Phasma"!

    I think D.J. is finally revealed.

    Recent novel Phasma enabled us this.

    Some years before TFA Captain Phasma(treterous evil thing) dethroned Captain Cardinal(honorable leader of Storm troopers in crimson armor ).

    His designation as a strorm troper was:
    CD-0922
    his born name (he was born on Jakku) was Archex

    Cardinal found (by interrogating captured Resistance agent) that the First Order is not anymore honorable effort to bring back law and order to the Galaxy, like the Empire did once and should do again, an idea in which he strongly believed.

    Phasma defeated him,and left him for dead.
    By this Phasma became new leader of FO stormtroopers.

    Cardinal almost died,but Resistance spy(agent)saved him from death.

    Where is he now?

    Is he now a rogoue freelancer of some kind?

    But he knows the subtleties of FO war machine,and could help Resistance infiltrate FO starship,which we know will happen in EP. VIII.

    Finn is going to find him.
    He is the DJ.

    Ok now this I can get on board with. I wouldn't say it 100% confirmed but yes he would be a strong contender.
    He would certainly have the motive in wanting to destroy Plasma & probably have the ability to help get Finn on board a FOSD.

    There is alternative method by which we can strenghten this find.

    The last Jedi will introduce two new major characters. "D.J", and Viceadmiral Amylin Holdo.

    Two novels were released simultaneously on september 1.

    "Princess of Alderaan" which introduces Amylin Holdo.

    "Phasma" which introduced Cardinal.

    Problem is timeline.
    FO brought Phasma onboard 10 years before TFA,and she dethroned and almost killed Cardinal just few years before TFA.

    it's an interesting thought... though didn't Rian say BDT's character was called D.J. for a reason? What could that be and how would it tie back to his Trooper history I wonder?

    I remember reading that D.J. stands for "Don't Join". At least this is supposedly the meaning of what is written on his cap:

    I was just a few seconds behind posting the same thing as you.

    Yes "Don't Join" is what people translated from his hat. It might be connected to his job or something else entirely. I'm sure it obviously has an important meaning or it wouldn't have been added though.

    Isn't that perfect,
    he has this daughter with someone in high ranks within the resistance, so when he finds out (one night stand, ...) he kidnaps his daughter and brings her to his home planet, to hide her from FO and Resistance just before phasma joins or maybe even afterwards because he wants to hide his weak points from her.

    This theory actually makes sense.

    It gives Finn a "this could be how you end up" type guy with DJ.

    I'm worried that the story lines in the ST are not pre-planned. But I think this is a very plausible theory to join the dots, should the need arise. Nice catch :)
