    Agreed, something like that can change his character dramatically. I just don't really get the vibe of a broken or vengeful man from what I've seen of Del Toro's photos. He looks sort of aloof, maybe slimey, I dunno how else to articulate it. I just don't read him as a tough guy, but more of a scoundrel and a cheater.

    We have a confirmation that DJ indeed infiltrates First Order 's super star destroyer, accompanying Finn and Rose Tico.

    The confirmation came by analysis of the height of the character accompanaying Finn and Rose Tico from trailer (compared to height of Rose Tico, look below).

    Perhaps surprising for some, del Torro is relatively huge man, 1.89 m height (6.2 ft.).

    By the height and physical atributes he is comparable to Phasma.

    Its somewhat unusual for a slicer to be so physically intimidating, and strange for a slicer to have so big personal issue to go infiltrate First order's admiral ship by himself.

    I think we made one step closer to confirmation "DJ" is former leader of storm troopers, Cardinal.

    ("DJ"could be working title ,his former     strom trooper designation was CD-0922 )

    Yeah she could said that to Finn only or to both Finn and DJ. I'll know for sure if that trailer was dubbed in french, since we differenciate you alone and you ( more than 1 person ).

    There is to my knowledge no TV appearance only of Del Torro during this hype period .Out of all noticable characters from TLJ he has special treatment....no appearance in shows.(we are talking about acclaimed world class actor who certainly would be welcome in shows and entertain as much as the others).
    Ace in the sleeve.
    This film will hit the public with surprises on so many fronts.I can't wait for it.

    I certainly wouldn't read to much into it. Could also mean he isn't a major character. Anthony Daniels, a legacy character, has also been absent from commercials and appearances. Maybe we will learn C3PO has been pulling the strings all long.

    I wouldn't read too Much into it, he could be a minor character. Don't forget they used max von sydow for all of 5 lines and he's just as if not more reputable than del toro.

    it would be too much interesting if Dj was also cardinal and since it doesn't concern Rey. It won't happen.

    There's one thing people forget about The Last Jedi - its script was finished way before Phasma was. The writing process for the book has definitely started after the film was shot. Overall, what I'm trying to say that when RJ was creating Episode VIII there was no concept of Cardinal (unless DJ truly is a former FO officer, but I find it unlikely,) so how can anyone be blamed for not using a character that at that time didn't even exist?

    Maybe he appeals more to the GA than MVS did. I just don't see them introducing a new key character at this moment in time. If he is then that's more exposition, which I think they have enough of. I think he will play a similar sized role as Lando, I'm not expecting him to be hugely important to the plot.

    He still has friends, in fact his generation of Storm troopers(first generation) are now mainly officers within Stormtrooper corps.

    He despises FO, he despises New Republic to.

    He is to be located by Maz Kanata due to her links in the underworld of Canto Bight.

    Phasma (by the words of Cardinal) have turned hornorable stromtroopers into a mercilles killers, she is hated by many. Many hate to kill for the First Order.

    They are going to weaken FO from the inside.

    ..he dies probably ..

    ..just my expectation...
