    The time line is dose not work for the Rey's daughter part as the novel is set way to close. to TFA for this to work

    However Cardinal would. Have taught fin n as he was the main teacher for all cadets before Phasma shows up & after that he is still responsible for all new cadets so they would have met & would probably recognise each other & if the Resistance spy made it back to there base she could provide a first point of contact between the two of them.

    Contact of Finn and "DJ" in the Film suddenly becames very interesting to see.
    Old hints are Finn is going to find him for his ability to enable infiltration of the FO(drednaught ship).

    I am not sure if DJ is Cardinal but I think that it is interesting. One of the drafts of ESB featured Han visiting his father and convincing his dad to help the rebellion. Apparently our beloved scoundrel was a wayward aristocrat. Its all very "Dune." But if DJ represents a "don't join" faction politically and he is an early figure from Finn's upbringing we be seeing remnants of that draft in play.

    I really like this idea. I think DJ should have a memorable role in TLJ. He already intrigues me, and having his backstory connect with previous characters would really add to the story.

    Well I think it would be good to have more than 2 factions in play. The Separatists never joined the Empire in many cases. Not all Imperial worlds joined the NR. There were independent systems mentioned in Bloodline. So a driven out 1st Order officer walking around in a Don't Join hat might speak to yet revealed political factions. Could be sweet.

    Isn't DJ supposed to be a slicer? (Could be I have that little spoiler wrong.) Doesn't anyone think Cardinal is just not bright enough to be a slicer? He didn't strike me as being the sharpest knife in the drawer... :rolleyes::p

    While the OP gives a nice theory, this is exactly why I don't see it happening. I don't see how Cardinal would go from dedicated stormtrooper to slicer. Especially in such a short time. Also there is nothing that would indicate that he would have those skills while being a stormtrooper.

    Just finished Phasma, is it possible for Torbi to be Rey's age? If so maybe Vi did go back to Parnassos and got followed by Phasma, then she abandoned Torbi on Jakku after Siv died by Phasmas hands.

    I know Cardinal wasn't the sharpest tool in the tool shed but even he wouldn't be stupid enough to go back to a FOSD as it would blow the whole undercover mission before it got even fully started as I think most senior FO staff would recognise him.

    I thought Finn is number 1 on the most wanted list of traitors of the FO.

    He doesn't have to be most wanted but at best they think he is already dead as Phasma is unlikely to admit that she left a still living Cardinal around at worst they know he left/defected from the FO (& by they I mean the FO High Command). So if he suddenly turns up again on a SD that is going to raise all sorts of questions which if you are trying to infiltrate a SD you would want to have a low profile as possible.

    But to consider even MAYBE getting a shot at killing Phasma on her own turf?? Some might argue that revenge will over-rule better judgement! :)

    I like this theory, and am considering it plausible enough to be possible!!

    Cardinal has a personal issue with Phasma.

    He also was leader of the first generation of FO storm troopers, which were in fact a brotherhood. Phasma is imposter that came later.

    In theory, if DJ is Cardinal and returns he could turn many troopers.

    Just speculating further...Cardinal was leader of the first generation of child-troopers.
    This first generation of the FO troopers are now almost certainly officers within the First Order military, people at age around 40..(just like D.J)

    This child warriors were raised like a family, a brothers in arms.Phasma almost killed Cardinal and took his position, but he was saved by resistance agent...Phasma novel..and he vanished - in to unknown.

    In theory, Cardinal's return could be ( I speculate!) this "spark" that could burn the First Order.
