After watching Attack the Block last week for some pre-Halloween festivities, the thought occurred to me regarding EpVII that we don’t really know much about what accents our man characters are using.

Now our OT heroes are all Americans. Traditionally Imperial forces have a mix of British and American accents. But our new crop of actors have a much more varied linguistic background.

    Isaac – Guatemalan
    Gleeson – Irish
    Boyega – British
    Ridley – British
    Driver – American
Nyong’o – Kenyan by way of Mexico
    Christie – British

Have we had any intelligence yet on what accents these actors will be using in the movie. For some reason I imagined Boyega and Ridley maintaining their natural accents, but now that I think about it seems more than likely that most will be asked to adopt American accents.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what they think might happen with the accents, and at the same time do you want their native accents or a more consistent Americanized accent throughout to maintain consistency (especially amongst family members)?

    Thoughts?

Ridley might have to go an American accent, Driver might have to adopt a slightly British one, Issac's accent is nonexistant. That's all I've got

They're English accents not British. Sorry I had to say it. Hear it all the time from my British friends. Haha :)

As far as ascents, I have been thinking Boyega and Nyong'o have very similar ascents. Think they could have some relation.

As someone who prides himself on knowing the difference between British and English I too have failed my English friends. In my defense I don't know the exactly regional accents of Boyega and Ridley, RP?

I trust in the Boyega Nyong'o thing being a joke about how everyone tries to find silly reasons they must be related

Not much is known about Daisy's background but, John was born in London. His parents are from Nigeria. So he has a bit of a Nigerian ascent. I can't place Daisy's ascent but, to me it is south England. Northern England ascent is more complicated and more Scottish like in tone.

It was. Maybe. It was. :)
