Do you guys think Luke will die in the new trilogy?

Luke sacrificing himself seems the way to go. But it would be a shame as there is so much unfulfilled potential in seeying Luke as a full fledged Jedi.
I would rather see something like lord of the rings in where Gandalf have it's own heroic storyline that runs parallel to the main adventure. In this way Rey can complete her hero's journey and we can see a wise and bad-ass Luke.

 

I'm sure we'll see a lot of Luke in VIII and IX; I think he'll be the only character from the original trilogy taking up a large role.

 

Bet you there'll be a 'Blue Ghost Luke' at the end of Episode 9 at the trilogy's conclusion.

 

I believe Luke has another personal arch to fulfill in this trilogy. Part of Episode VIII is going to be about discovering what that arch is. Why Snoke is so afraid of Luke Skywalker resurfacing.

 

i hope he doest but think he probably will.

just hope its in 9 not 8, their is still so much you can do with the character.

John Boyega said the Ep. 8 will be "much darker". I really hope that doesn't mean Luke dies. I'm not opposed to Luke dying, just not so close on the heels of Han's death. We need Luke there to remind us that we're watching part of a larger saga. If it just becomes about the new heroes, we may as well be watching a completely different sci-if saga. That's why I think it would be fitting for Luke to die at the end of 9 (self sacrifice would be incredible). We need to see Luke's fulfilled greater arch. His story wasn't just about BECOMING a Jedi, he was the NEW HOPE for the Jedi order, hence the NEW HOPE for the Galaxy. We need to see him "pass on what he has learned" and truly fulfill his destiny of treats listing the Jedi order. Then we can lose Luke knowing that he truly has saved the Galaxy.

 

Luke shouldn't die - it just wouldn't be right. The only way they can keep it all held together is if they stop with Han. Otherwise, it will look like they're just trying to write-out the old characters to make way for new faces. It won't look story oriented... it will look profit and brand oriented.

It also isn't smart. I know many people who are only interested in the new movies if the original cast are involved. They just don't care, at least at this time, about the new faces. They want their Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2, 3PO, Ackbar, Lando, Wedge, etc. They want to know what happened to their beloved characters. JJ and company spent a lot of story currency on bumping off Han. It would be well advised of them to quit while they're ahead.

 

I could actually see Luke die while trying to protect Rey. I don`t think he will have a lightsaber duel with Snoke, but I could see him having a saber fight with Kylo. Kylo kills Luke and Snoke is very satisfied. But Ben realizes his mistake and turns against Snoke and kills him. Ben turns to the light.

 

I don't think he'll die, specially after Colin's comments saying he's excited to write for Luke and Leia. I'm hopeful.

 

If Colin Trevorrow's words are true, Luke and Leia survive until at least Episode 9, I could see Luke dying in a fight with Snoke/Kylo and Rey having to take the mantle of the Jedi Order

 

Might go down in iv and be seen as a ghost in the end like Kenobi in vi. Beyond that if another trilogy gets green lit, I guess it's whatever Mark feels up to.

 

I actually think he may live through the whole thing....maybe. I think he will get redemption by teaching at an academy to younglings tha DONT get murdered for once.

 

I hope Luke doesn't die but part of me thinks they'll kill him off because Hamill might not want to stay on, "too old for this stuff" kinda deal. Story wise I just don't think it would work well unless Luke re-establishes the Jedi Order within the trilogy and even then it will be a bit rushed for him to recruit Jedi and make it stable enough to last, unlike his first attempt. I see Luke as the first Grand master of the NJO who would guide it during its early most vulnerable years and I just don't think there's enough time for Luke to establish the NJO and have a decent amount of time leading it during the ST. If he dies after training Rey then we're just left with her to found it, exactly like Luke at the end of ROTJ, and I just think that would cheapen Luke's development.

 

But dying...NO.

 

Yes, I bet that Luke will bite the dust in Episode VIII but will become a Force Ghost and so will appear again in Episode IX

 

I think that Luke won`t kill him just because of their relation. Surely he could take him down, but it wouldn`t be the right thing to do. I don`t find it as a satisifing character development. I suppose it could happen, but I think it`s going to be a bit like Obi-Wans death in ANH.

 

Rey is the hero. Rey must go on alone. If all powerful Luke is still running around then this just can't happen. He will peg it in some way (probably do a Yoda) in IX.

I think his death won`t be natural, but rather he will be cut down at the hands of Kylo. Would be the most memorial death in my opinion.
