    I think Sidious knew he would survive because he knew Anakin would save him for the knowledge to save Padme. Which off course we knew was a lie.

    He absollutely throws the fight. Its the 'straw that broke the camels back' IMO. Anakin has a choice to make - save the Jedi who was reluctant to make him a master or the mentor who had promised to help him save the one he loved from dying. I think if Anakin had walked in and Sidious was kicking Windu's backside, in all his Sith glory, I think it might have been different. But by portraying a weak defeated man, was just enough to make Anakin make the wrong choice (dark)

    Absolutely; Palpy threw the fight. Just look at Palpy vs. Yoda. Palpatine never uses force push or even So-Ken, and when prompted to use force powers he has it conveniently reflected back at himself in a sympathy plea to Anakin.
    I have a lot of misgivings about how this fight went down, and IMHO it suffers from a creative nerfing because if brought to it's full potential this would easily have overshadowed Anakin vs. Obi-Wan at the end of the movie.

    interesting to observe that he took the time to say "i can save your friends from dying" during the fight.

    come to think of it...he would have still survived if sidious fell off the window
