SPECULATION Domhnall Gleeson in TFA

It really could be quite good if that's the way they do it. It keeps the theme of the generational tale going with plenty of room to do interesting things with the characters.

 

The rumor a from a few days ago. Was that DG was . . . .

a Skywalker who learned about the Rebel Superweapon and defected to the Empire to stop both the Imps and the Reb Hardliners. This seems out of sorts with the newer ideas suggest at MSW that DG fires a weapon after his crew goes down. The assumption being that he is taking out a planet and thus billions of innocents. What if he is trying to fire the weapon because it has been sabotaged or the test fire is called off and he is hoping to fire it anyway thus destroying it and possibly killing himself in the process.

 

Or both Rey and Kylo are Solos and Gleeson is a Skywalker. Rey is in the middle. Gleeson lightside, but misguided, Kylo is darkside and driven perhaps by the same voice that torments Luke outside the crypt. Kylo is like ROTS Anakin, Rey like Leia and Glesson like ESB Luke.

Finn isn't weighed down by the family baggage.

 

Those are bold predictions, I doubt Gleeson will be misguided at this point of the timeline, Rey maybe still on the learning curb, Kylo is at full potential.

 

Wasn't a prediction. If Gleeson joined the Empire to infiltrate it, not misguided. If he joined it as a reaction to what the Rebel Alliance has planned and does something he feels righteous but ends up being disastrous... misguided.

I'm sure he has a role of significance given his acting ability.

 

Of the actors of the new cast members... he seems to have the most experience and gravitas, as well as the most range. HIs role may not be huge in terms of screen time, but I think he will be one of the major characters. I at least hope so. Also, if he spends most of his time onscreen aboard a Star Destroyer or Rebel Cruiser etc... his scenes would have been seen by fewer crew members. Could explain why we haven't seen much about him, as well as the assumption he's an Imperial Officer.

 

I'm not sure if this has been pointed out before, but anyone notice how Domnhall looks VERY similar to General Crix Madine from Return Of The Jedi?





This also falls in line with rumours of Domnhall playing an imperial in a flashback. Madine was originally an Imperial before defecting to Rebel forces.

 

I don't think they'd cast Domnhall for just a flashback scene. He will be a major character. I think.

 

Maybe Gen. madine was put in Carbonite after ROTJ (a joke on him during the Beer Bash on Endor)...

Isn't he kind of young for a "General"?

 

He could be a fast tracked officer if he is the rumored Tarkin

 

Or it could be just a production name that doesn't mean anything.

 

Is the Universe really so small that they need a Tarkin descendant to appear after he's dies in Ep IV?

Yup. If you want as little as known as possible about the character... you don't call them Commander Skywalker.
