SPECULATION Domhnall Gleeson in TFA

Yep. This is the PR machine churning PR.

The only "young" stars in the ST are John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and BB-8.
(You could say Maisie as well, but thus far, she is rumored to have a minor part.)

 

I think Oscar Isaac is young enough. If he wasn't a pretty big role player I don't know if he would mention anything about plot theories being wrong.

 

The correct answer is:

Young was an overstatement when it comes to Oscar.

But it's how PR is selling Ridley, Boyega, and Isaac as the three new leads.

Gleeson could also fit the bill... but seeing as how he wasn't in the teaser trailer, he is not a lead.

Sorry emo fans. He could still be a key player with a big secret. But not a lead.

 

The main characters of 7 may not be the main characters overall. Like how TPM was mostly about qui-gon, but Ob-wan was more central to the PT overall.

 

TPM wasn't about Qui-Gon. Screen time doesn't necessarily translate into the story being all about x. It's not "the life and times" of Qui-Gon Jinn in TPM. That description better fits Padme and Anakin as Qui-Gon is a POV and mentor character. Kenobi is primary just a warrior throughout the trilogy that the story is not about, it's much more about Anakin after TPM and to a lesser extent Padme after TPM. Watch the documentary produced in association with Lucasfilm called "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed," which focuses on Luke and Anakin as the two Star Wars main characters. Abrams makes an appearance in it too.

 

In Hollywood 30's means they can play young 20's. When my sister tried to get in they told her she was pretty and "sparkled" but she would be playing middle schoolers despite almost being 20. My cousin has the same issue, he's almost in high school but looks like a tall 10 year old.

 

My only point was that Gleeson can be a minor character in this film and a lead in the next 2. The prequels can be viewed as a story mostly about the emperor's rise to power or Vader's journey etc. Qui-gon is still the main character of TPM. Would anyone says Vader was the main character?

 

Part of what we have heard with Gleeson was that he will be bigger in 8 and 9 and that anything about his character would be a major spoiler.

This of course lead me to theorize that he is a Skywalker or Solo who falls to the dark side in VII (favoring Skywalker raised by Solo's after Luke's disappearance). But a lot of people are putting that plot line on to Driver instead

 

I believe he'll be the tech expert of the new group of characters, who repairs other characters' equipment (droids, lightsabers and other equipment and stays on the Falcon)

On the casting sheet, this was one of the character descriptions:
"Thirty something male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit."

That to me hints that this character's supposed to be more of a shy tech expert guy, which I think Domnhall could work as.. He's also 31.



Maybe he's the character wearing the hat above?

It would be pretty funny if everyone was expecting Driver to be the descendent of Anakin Skywalker that goes to the dark side...only to have it be Gleeson's character. Driver could just end up a son of Han an Leia who is part of the overall story.

 

We don't know who Kylo Ren is it......... ;-)

 

This. Kylo's identity is the most likely candidate for MYSTERY BOX shenanigans.

Just because the card says "his lightsaber!" doesn't mean anything... Remember Leia was also thought to be a male when she was disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh.

Kylo Ren could easily be Gwendoline Christie. And the chrometrooper chasing Boyega bit might be 100% off... the guys on his tail could be the three Raid actors without Christie. (Like they would need her?! Pfft.)

For some reason, Domnhall appears too slight of build to be the hooded figure. For me, it's a toss up between Driver or Christie as Kylo.

Personally, I'd like it to be Gwendoline. It would be great to flip the genders of both our Luke figure (likely Rey) AND that of her antagonist.

 

I could see Domhnall Gleeson not only being Kylo Ren, but also Luke Skywalkers son. At climax of the film, Luke tries to kill his own son and let's him live instead. The circle is now complete!

 

Would certainly be dramatic, but sell me on the why of Luke having a child after seeing what his bloodline is capable of first. His sister has Han and is setup to have kids. Meanwhile, he's a boyscout Jedi... plus his daddy issues... it would take a helluva script to convince anyone that Luke somehow fell madly in love with someone and decided to have a child. I don't see it. At the end of the day, most Jedi are married to the Force. Nothing else.

 

Love is crazy.

 

Love is pain. Love is loss. Love is work. Love is giving yourself to someone entirely.

"Ain't nobody got time for that!"

Especially if you're carrying the burden of being one of the last Jedi... not to mention being the Empire's most wanted.

Crazy, stupid love is for the sheeple, not a Jedi Master on the run.

Seems out of character. Something Lando would do (with Lobot). Not how Luke would go about things. The conflict of interest is hard to look past. Apprentice and lover? Niet. Luke is sacred to most of us, and I doubt they're going to gamble on changing his nature. They get that wrong, poof! All our goodwill is gone.

 

It's also highly likely he'll be playing Lobot
