He kinda felt Tarkin-like except with more of criminal or dark side that is not hidden, he wears it proudly.

I like the actor, I like where the show is going with the Darksaber and its potential subplots...
But at this moment, Gideon is a 2D villain trope (in my opinion):
    • His motivation is based entirely on personal gain, or so it seems. Boring.
    • He just wants to become powerful...but then what...? Let's say he accomplishes goal #1...is that where his motivation ends? Does he make it up as he goes along, or does he have a meaningful vision of the future and his place in the bigger picture?
    • He shows up towards the end and acts super evil, you know, to get the point across that he's bad.
    • He is unnecessarily violent and callous for no described reason. Even the most pure evil villains are flat & pointless filler if their motivations are nonexistent or senseless. Killing your own men doesn't even make sense. Lmao.
    • He gives Mando & co time escape in episode 8. From what we know of this character so far, he's willing to expend innocent life on a whim, and with haste. Let's be real, he did this because plot progression needs to happen, and if Mando/The Child die, the show ends...or something.
    • He creates monologue with Mando & co, again, as a plot mechanism to make points A (the main party is trapped!) & B (tada, they escape!) line up; so he takes the time to converse with his enemy but doesn't waste time offing his own soldiers or explaining his motivations to them.
    • He's obviously a Vader fanboy, which is fine, but he'll never be at that level, because of the unspoken Star Wars hierarchy of badassness. You can't outcool Mufasa wearing black leather.
    Again, this is all IMO.

I hope Gideon doesn't turn out to be an expendable piece of filler. Obviously he has some personal history with the Mandalorian people, and there is so much potential (hopefully not to be wasted). With that said, I really think the writers are lining up the return of at least a few familiar faces, and Gideon could potentially tie a few really great subplots together. Or he could get axed and the "true villain" will be revealed. In my opinion, with Filoni on board (who has a penchant for tying things together nicely), Gideon will get a good and thorough fleshing-out.

I liked his character in "Revolution" as Tom Neville. That series started with some great promise and then went off the rails.

If you're interested in some of the darksaber history, here's a list someone made for me of the Clone Wars and Rebels episodes that reference it:

Mandalore and Satine's introduction (These 3 are just background.)
    212 The Mandalore Plot
    213 Voyage of Temptation
    214 Duchess of Mandalore

    Padme and Ahsoka on Mandalore
    305 Corruption
    306 The Academy

    Lux Bonteri and Death Watch
    310 Heroes on Both Side
    414 A Friend In Need

    Maul and Mandalore
    501 Revival
    514 Eminence
    515 Shades of Reason
    516 The Lawless
It ends here with the comic "Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir" and the Clone War season 7 having the plot of the Siege of Mandalore. (These haven't aired yet.)

After that, you'll need to watch some of Rebels episodes.
213 The Protector of Concord Dawn
    307 Imperial Super Commandos
    311 Visions and Voices
    315 Trials of the Darksaber
    316 Legacy of Mandalore
    401-2 Heroes of Mandalore

That's a lot, but it's all right there on Disney+ if you're bored!

I like the character a lot and the actor is awesome. I'm a Breaking Bad fan :)

I was a little disappointed that he flew an ordinary TIE. I thought a Moff would have an interceptor or even one of Vader's X-1s or some cool shuttle.

I'm curious about his armor. Is it actually just armor? He wears it in non combat situations like on the bridge of his capital ship. I wonder if it is some form of life support similar to Vader's. It was mentioned that he was believed to have been executed. Maybe he was executed and revived or something along those lines. It just strikes me as odd that a Moff would wear armor all the time.

He is as evil as my stepfather has used to be from time to time. So he must be one of the greatest villains of all time :D

Wasn't it said back in season one his title of Moff was something his troops and underlings called him out of respect? He never was given it by Imperial command.
