I think movies like Logan and Deadpool are for niche markets.

And I believe there would be a market for such Star Wars films.

It's just that I personally believe that could be a costly slice of pie, sort of to gain the world and lose its soul, as I admittedly subjectively see all that.

But, thank you for your response, and as I said, I fully support and respect your dissenting opinion, and I leave this all in the hands in the Force.

    Just a couple thoughts-

Game of Thrones is, ultimately, George R.R. Martin's work. B&W have done a really good job adapting it for the silver screen, but in the end, the story is mostly Martin's.

And sure, Benioff did that Wolverine movie, too. Probably far from the best X-Men movie, but that was also quite a while ago.

Guess what else these two did? An episode of the show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia that spoofed the short story Flowers for Algernon.

So tonally, I don't think we need to put them into a box- there's a heavy HBO adult drama, a campy superhero movie, and a hilarious and irreverent television show. I think they've got range that extends beyond "adult content", in the traditional sense.

That being said, if they were to give us a more adult Star Wars, what would we expect? Personally, I always thought that Rogue One was about as adult as we would get.

Would there be profanity? Maybe, but I always found the faux-Star Wars profanity to be a lot more charming and in-universe seeming than when they actually try to throw in English phrases (the first Aftermath book has this problem a little bit, making the dialogue feel less Star Wars).

Nudity? I mean, I guess- but considering the taboo that many Western cultures place on the body, this would significantly hurt their ticket sales, in ways that violence or language might not.

Speaking of which- violence? I could see a Star Wars movie being a little more violent than Rogue One, but not a ton. And since we've seen so little gore in other movies, it would be tonally strange to have everyone bleeding all over the place for one single battle. Unless they're fighting Ewoks, which I guess would make sense :p. Speaking of those little devils...

Horror? This, I could almost see, but it's probably because I'm biased toward the idea of Star Wars branching off into different genres. If B&W decided to take Star Wars into the horror genre, we could see a lot potential for new storylines (at least as far as movies have been concerned). However, the biggest caveat here is that a lot of people simply do not like to be scared. IT did pretty well for a horror film last year, but even so it didn't approach Star Wars numbers at less than 3/4 of Rogue One's earnings. Which is still really good for a movie, but consider that it now is the highest grossing in the genre compared to what is a relatively low grossing Star Wars film.

Anyway, any other ideas on how Star Wars could go adult, or riffs on these themes that I might have missed?

Some might consider Han's use of "Hell" to be a profanity, but I thought it was used effectively.

Battlestar Galactica had its nice own little profane neologism:

I have to admit that I hate when people use the word, "meh".
But, there is not enough meh in the galaxy to describe how I feel about this news.

Really hoping not to see a bunch of Jedi with their dorks hanging out.

I honestly wouldn't mind a SW Breaking Bad esque type show or movie. Instead of meth, they can use death sticks. George already set us up for that one..lol

I am 100% in the camp of wanting Star Wars horror. I think the monetary aspect of that is a bit misguided since It cost 35 million to make and made 700 million. TLJ cost 200 million. It made 20 times it's budget. That's remarkable.

A low budget Star Wars horror flick? Get a guy like Del Toro behind it....just let him go crazy with story (not budget!) in a way that cant impact other films...

Oh, totally agreed. And that could be an interesting way to take a Star Wars movie, too.

"I'm doing my part to stamp out the Geonosian bug worm."
"And I'm doing my part, too. Join the Galactic Empire today, and help do your part to free the galaxy from Geonosian crawlers."
"Would you like to know more?"

That would be incredible. An Empire propaganda movie.
Imagine a serious movie from the POV of rebels interjected by Empire Propaganda

"meh"- people are commonly referred to as sheeple.

I do like how people think that when Martin couldn't keep anymore GoT became bad. He was still advising the show by handing in what was going to happen next to the characters. Furthermore, for anyone who has actually read GoT books I can say you with 100% confidence that the series are better than the books. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.

I'll admit, a part of me wants this to be set in the Old Republic days, when the Sith and Jedi openly warred with one-another.

However, I'm still hesitant about having KotOR directly translated onto the screen. Most of us already experienced the main plot twist, and those who haven't will have it spoiled for them pretty quick, unless they can keep the actual nature of the film under wraps. Also, game-to-movie conversions have a truly lousy track record.

I'd settle for an Old Republic (not necessarilyTOR either), where they tell their own story. Maybe with references to elements from KotOR, but let people tell their own stories. Sith Empire vs. Republic is fine. An attempt to imitate a video game probably won't go so well.

I wish these gentlemen the best of luck with whatever they do.

I love both, but I think it's funny- recent episodes of GOT have included a lot more traditional fantasy, something some fans take issue with. But generally, the show has avoided fantasy, while the books have actually had a lot more elements of it. That's one of the biggest differences between GOT and ASOIAF, really, and in some ways the last season was actually more in line with the books' philosophy on that.

Some studio has to break the video game to movie plague... LFL:p

    PLZZZ

Mother/Jedi raising daughter/Padawan, Father/Emperor controlling it all by all means necessary, right up GOT's alley.

The way she looks at her daughter consumed by the Dark side breaks my heart... (at 5:50)

Almost as if Leia and Ben reunited but Ben consumed by the Dark Side doesn't see his mother but an enemy, shocking like GOT IMHO :)

KK said LFL won't be doing things they have created b4 so they might just cherry pick.
