I'm not buying RJ's "final Jedi" Tweet. I don't see Star Wars moving away from the Jedi. The two are synonymous with each other. I don't buy into all the "everything's going to be gray from now on!" theories either. "Without the Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force." It makes the most sense that Luke is *currently* the last Jedi, and that "the new Jedi... will rise" in this Trilogy. Also, why else would he feel the need to find the First Jedi Temple? I think he was looking for answers on how to build a lasting Order.

I think this is just some Twitter trolling, considering "last" and "final" are synonymous. The only problem is that "final" has a finality to it that "last" does not always have.

I will say that I'm a little worried about them making Grand Master Luke Skywalker a complete and utter failure though. He failed once. But now I want to see him succeed. I have no interest in seeing the old EU become the only place for fans to still have the Jedi, and a not-a-total-failure version of Luke. #MakeLukeGreatAgain. Let's see the Jedi finally make the return they've been promised for over 30 years. Let's see Luke and Rey work together to finally bring the Jedi back.

Luke is, of course, the final Jedi... but only until he isn't.

If they haven't shown a single still from the movie, or any new footage, which they haven't (that video from last year was a different angle of old scenes), then there's no way RJ can give away something as spoilery as there won't be any Jedi after these two.

There's some twist or wordplay to what he's saying. He's being playful.

    Or whatever.

KK would kill his whole family if he just let this slip.

This is a sanctioned false note meant to launch 1000 click bait articles. Just like the JJ Oscar comment. And whatever dumb thing gets said or tweeted in 10 days to keep the chatter re: TLJ before SWC (which I believe LFL internally refers to as "rooing").

Well, there's deeper meaning with both words that make them not necessarily synonymous. But it seems like his intent was to make it a joke.

Exactly. As I mentioned in another thread, last can mean "what came before". Perhaps Luke has learned that the last Jedi were wrong about a lot of things. That they were too focused on antiquated doctrine. That they could not adapt to the new realities of the Galaxy, or the direction of the force. Maybe from the metaphorical ashes of the Jedi that came before him and Rey, they can build the new Jedi order. Unbound by the chains of the past. The failure Luke experienced with Ben may have convinced him that the "old ways" of denying your true emotions and forgoing the normal bonds of human relationships, were foolish and dangerous. The last order of Jedi, were wrong.

Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass.

Unless Luke has decided that there can be no balance in the force with the Jedi still around....

Because the continued presence of dark siders that make planet-killing weapons are so great for the Force... How? No disrespect or anything, but I don't get how Luke would come to the conclusion that somehow the Jedi are the problem here.

I think that there's a good reason why Luke isn't on the front lines as of yet, but I don't think it has to do with the whole "Balance of the Force" thing. It seems like it's more about him choosing to seek knowledge and to keep his loved ones out of danger by staying hidden until the time is right. He did something similar in Return Of The Jedi, after all.

Yoda is the teacher that had the most impact on him and he changed a lot from the prequels to his death. The prequels showed that the ways of the Jedi were to much of of an institution and less about the force.Maybe Luke discovered where they lost their ways when he explored the ancient Jedi.

Just saying 'maybe'. But maybe, as many people have been saying for a while, because the Jedi training was so unforgiving and lacked compassion Luke realises that it was part of the problem.

I suspect that the Jedi as they were may be going for good and may be replaced by something else. This new group may have a new name and have more of an emphasis on compassion. I confidently predict the new group will be called the 'Knights of Lego Han' and they shall spread peace and harmony throughout the galaxy ;)

But difficult to see, always in motion is the future.

There's plenty of scope to bring back the Jedi in the anthology films. We may see plenty of Jedi over the years from a time long ago, but going forward the future may be Jedi free.

I hope I'm wrong though. A Star Wars universe without Jedi is one that feels a little bit emptier :(

Sometimes I feel we forget about Palpatine.
It seems everything went wrong becouse of the Jedi and not becouse of him...
I mean, we can blame them for being stupid (thus Palpatine for being an evil genius) but not for their rules which - by the way - proved to be right for hundreds of years...

However, I don't know what the title really means. It could be whatever...
Everything that you all are saying, but it could be related to the last Jedi of the Order as we know it: Joda, Kenobi and so on...
What if they left something (some kind of knowledge, for example) that will be used now?

I'm thinking about the force tree, but it may be everything....
