Not necessarily, but it's nice to be courteous. It's your judgment.

This is the kind of thing I read and come up with, that I always have to prepare to be really disappointed to not see happen... but man, I'd love it if it did. They have to explain, somehow, what's going on with the old masters.

I'm honestly not a fan of the idea of Luke not being The Last Jedi. Ahsoka's great, but I like Luke being the Grand Master. His character deserves that status, after 30 years. I agree though, that would create some great material! Maybe Ahsoka did live on, and meet Luke at some point prior to the Sequel Trilogy...

Ahsoka is no longer a Jedi though. She's gotta be somewhere in the galaxy.

Luke calling Ahsoka master? Just no. Luke has gone off in search of Jedi temples and has been with Ben for a lot of his time, only spending a few years on Ahch-To seemingly, it seems he's forging his own path without the need for anothers direction/need to have a new master. Plus Ahsoka isn't a Jedi, therefore Luke searching for Jedi teachings and calling a non-Jedi master doesn't work.

I don't think it would go down well, and would open up too many questions and extra unnecessary story threads in a movie about Rey, Kylo and Luke

Less than a week until SWC!!! Will there be a live-reaction thread created for the entire event or at least for TLJ portion?
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 7, 2017, Original Post Date: Apr 7, 2017 ---
I posted this is the MSW new vehicle description thread but felt it should go here, too.

MSW just posted this new information about a new planet and how it could host a battle with the new walkers...extending my growing concern of being too similar to Empire. I hope i'm wrong but either way, I think it will be a really good movie...I just want greatness. What can I say? I'm greedy! :)

I'm in the same boat, I allow my mind to wander and dream up scenarios that I will actually be disappointed when they don't happen. Even if Lucasfilm never promised them.

He would defer to her out of respect and from the fact that she's older and wiser and because she knew his father and he never did and I already said she's not a Jedi anymore and my guess is he isn't anymore either so it makes sense he'd find a fellow former Jedi in that same position but he'll attempt to train Rey as a Jedi in any case.

i dunno, i highly doubt they'll be bringing Ahsoka into TLJ.

having said that, maybe this is Laura Dern's character?

What I have wanted ever since 1983 to see in a SW movie is

Bwings and more walkers. If these things fight each other in TLJ, that will be absolutely nuts. if they include a shot of that in the first trailer.... I may need medical attention. I think this leak may be from people who have seen the trailer and so it's second and third hand

Let's not forget that walkers appeared in ESB, ROTJ, AOTC, ROTS, TFA, and RO. though certainly ESB was their most involved appearance. And if these do look very different and are being fought by different fighters in a different manner (dropping explosive gems...which sound like kyber crystals to me... It was recently revealed that Jedha only produced kyber crystals because of a meteor strike long ago. This planet could be the new source for energy for the galaxy in the form of kyber crystals....or something similar). Mars with snow or salt flats and lava and weird rock formations sounds very different from Hoth and Scariff.

I'm starting to think this trailer is going to be packed with epic scenes, much like that first RO "teaser." They've been in postproduction for so long, heck, they started filming 14 months ago. Even if it takes 3 months to cut and approve a trailer, they've had plenty of time to assemble something that has lots of effects shots.

I've said this before, and I'm going to say it this one last time before the trailer is released: TLJ is in a very different situation from TFA.

Releasing two popular SW movies has raised expectations
Yes, basically everyone knows SW is back and anyone who saw TFA knows there would be a sequel, so the awareness factor is already done.

But TLJ is at the tail end of one of the biggest years of blockbusters ever. BATB, Alien Covenant, GOTG2, Power Rangers, FOTF, Spiderman Homecoming, IT, Wonder Woman, plus Thor 3 and Justice League less than six weeks before it opens, are fighting for column inches in the entertainment world.

Notice that several of those are space-based or at the very least sci-fi.

What LFL releases for TLJ will have to be stranger and more of what is unique to this film.

Hopefully that will include the bits of the third act action set piece.

TLJ is the big dog, for sure, but they will have to show more in all the trailers because the novelty of SW returning is gone.

I'm wondering what that mineral is going to be? Moreover, how are they going to sell it? It seems that this mine is on the edge of legal activity, what may be exploited by Laura Dern's character to further discredit the Resistance's command. Intersting stuff...

I would love if they showed as much footage as possible but I also remember hearing of complaints that TFA trailer pretty much gave the entire film away, as did the trailer with Rogue One, so this time they might try to go in a different direction by just giving us glimpses of new material but not showing enough where it's obvious what's going on. If they were to include new shots like Snoke's real body, Kylo's updated mask, BDT and KMT's characters, new planets, Rey and Finn in their new outfits, and of course Luke igniting that iconic green lightsaber of his then I will be thrilled. Maybe even a quick shot of Yoda/Obi-Wan/Anakin/Lando (fingers crossed!) As of now, there is no need for more in my opinion and I'm also as impatient as it gets so it's really hard to say this but in the end, we still do have to wait until the end of December for the film so I rather slowly and steadily get information so we have time to analyze and get used to it and let things build up rather than being bombarded by basically everything all at once. I feel as if that would kill some excitement and I definitely don't want them. For now, teasing the new characters and locations should serve just fine until we get the full one in October. I do expect something at least 90 seconds though, not like the first TFA teaser. The second one is something similar to what we're likely getting.

I don't see any benefit to bringing that character back. TLJ has so much to explain already.

Saw Gurrera (sp?) worked as a drop in character who didn't need a ton of exposition to feel like a big part of the story. Also, a name actor played him with minimal makeup. And even then people thought the character was distracting (largely but not exclusively from those who weren't hardcore SW fans).

Ashoka requires an ocean of exposition for her appearance to make an impact, and even then I think her showing up clouds the issue and confuses more than anything. I've watched a few CW episodes and no Rebels episodes, and she's not someone who slides into the narrative or who could be a fun Easter egg.

I agree with a lot what you said, but disagree with the part about TFA being spoiled by the trailers.

I think a lot of SW fans felt TFA was spoiled, but it wasn't really by the trailers. The poster....well yes it spoiled a lot. The plot leaked well before the movie premiered, but it wasn't confirmed by that much of the trailers.

I understand why you say that, because they withheld footage from April until October. That BTS video didn't show much unless you went frame by frame and knew the context.

Very, very little of the third Act is shown in the trailers.

I think how much you feel that TFA was spoiled comes from the shotgun approach to marketing they took.

They waited so long before releasing the full trailer, and did it at the same time as the poster. They then released tons of TV spots shortly afterward. They waited so long for the final push, it was rushed, too much all at once.

I admit I don't remember all the TV spots for precisely that reason. They probably did spoil more than I'm giving credit for spoiling.
The TFA poster is a disaster. Luke & and Snoke are the only two characters not on that thing.

I think they gave away a ton for RO, but it was definitely a better approach and pace.

I agree, I think we'll get like a 90-180 sec trailer, much like the second TFA teaser.

Luke turning on his green lightsaber is so expected as the money shot for the first teaser, I think they'll go some other way, just because they need a thrilling surprise for the last shot:
Vader in silhouette, Han & Chewie, Finn w/the lightsaber, the MF with TIE fighters, all were big endings.

I feel like they'll go against expectations.

I think the odds of seeing BDT, Dern, Snoke, and any OT returning characters (who weren't in TFA) appearing in this first trailer is very low.

We agree that a slow, more measured approach to releasing content is preferable. I think LFL learned their lesson, based on how they promoted RO.

They won't wait until October to release a second trailer. They'll release something at D23(or whatever this year is) or another time in late summer. Part of me thinks they'll have a second trailer attached to IT or Kingsmen 2 in Sept.

You've got College Football opening weekend (Labor Day weekend) with several high profile games on ESPN & ABC. The ESPYS in mid-July (which is the only sports related broadcast in the span of 72 hours), the NBA Finals in late June, the Nathan's hot dog eating contest (people watch that thing...mostly because it's either raining or hot as a brick pizza oven in about 40% of the country on July 4th), the little league World Series, random soccer friendlies & World Cup qualifiers, lots of Sunday night baseball games on ESPN (like LA-NY, NY-Boston, Cubs-STL, ATL-NY, etc), and the MNF premiere in mid-September. All those are on Disney owned networks. I don't know what network will broadcast the MLB All-Star game, Home Run Derby, and NFL HOF Game. They all fit into a first full trailer time frame as well.

We are getting two trailers before the final one is released around October.

With the New Republic at first complicit, then absent after TFA, selling a mineral wouldn't be that hard.

And considering three of the Rebellion generals (and one walking carpet) were closely connected to smuggling, I can see how the illicit sales could've started quickly and with great volume.

You don't need an ocean of exposition to explain Ahsoka in the last Jedi?
Give her one scene and done. The casual audience don't have or need any more info about her than they do lobot. It's just a woman in the film to them.
Then LFL get to sell a mountain of books and comics about her journey to us hardcore fans.

Too often we forget that something like 95% of a Star Wars movies gross is from casual cinema going fans.
It is not made of the fringe element super hardcore fans like us.

well the average viewer probbaly would say, "who tf is that?" especially since for us, she is a very important figurehead when it comes to sw and the skywalkers, who the main trilogies are about. of course, that's unless the typical movie goer treats it like a typical blockbuster and doesnt care

Sounds like a Tolkien character. Where did you get the information from? What is your source? Was it perhaps a Swedish soccer fan?

I see where you're coming from, but I don't see any reason to include her from a narrative standpoint.

As a naked cash grab, oh, sure they could include her. That's not their style.

And if you include her in one scene, even if it is a long one, you have to spend most of her screen time explaining who she is and WHY her appearance is significant to the film.

I could only see her included in some sort of Force Ghost council group shot. Think what Luke sees at the end of ROTJ, but with her Qui-Gon, and maybe one other PT Jedi in there and they publish a comic or book to explain it. That could work as an Easter Egg, but I still think it confuses casual moviegoers and is a net negative.

    TLJ isn't transformers 4, Fast 5, or Spider-Man 2.

A large percentage of it will explain not only what was introduced by TFA but also what happened before TFA. TLJ will have lots of exposition and new setups for EIX, and possibly a Kenobi anthology film.

You could be right that she pops up, but it's extra work casting an actress who looks like the character, then deciding (if she speaks) how much she will sound like the cartoon...Saw being so messed up in RO explained the new voice, but his performance was criticized as distracting. LFL saw (no pun intended) the dailies long before TLJ began filming, and I think that performance will influence LFL's approach to bringing cartoon SW characters into live action going forward.

Don't forget that Thrawn could appear in TLJ, and that one conversion of a cartoon character is enough for them. And Thrawn has a book coming out, not Ashoka (sp?).

You could be right about her inclusion, but I'm 99% sure we won't know until December, as they have no reason to include her in the trailers.

It's an interesting idea, and one that I'm sure will be discussed again in the coming months.
