''It's time for the Jedi.....to end''

Is clever editing.

That is Luke saying that, but at 2 different moments in the movie.

One line is ''It's time for the Jedi'' (which will be cool depending when delivered) and the second line ''To end'' will be part of another sentence. For example. Kylo shows up and Luke turns to Rey who is afraid and says ''This needs to end''.

I'm sort of ambivalent about this idea. I don't really need my heroes to be supernatural in any way. Still, if Rey was the Lightside, it might explain why her parents leave her on Jakku. It might be one of those situations where a child exhibits mysterious, scary powers, and because the parents are afraid, they abandon them.

This would be like parents abandoning Jesus to a thug. It's ironic, but I'm not sure it would fit for SW.

 

Really the problem with that is it seems to move away from the idea of Balance.
If you are just all light or all dark why do you need balance?

 

Maybe because balance is not dark plus light. Balance is not gray. Balance is the goal of light only....

I couldn't agree more: if the prophecy of the Chosen One is to destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force, then the Force must, to some extent, have a predisposition towards the Light. That, or the Sith corrupt it so much so that the natural Dark Side energy in the galaxy becomes corrupt and multiplies.

That is, of course, if the prophecy wasn't read wrong.

That's extremely misleading, almost manipulative. Cutting scenes together to make it look like something else is okay (like Phasma appearing to walk out of Luke's burning Jedi Academy), but literally taking two throw-away sentences and combining them to create a tagline for the film, especially if Luke actually doesn't say that, is manipulative.

Besides, Mark Hamill has said in interviews that he's read that actual line in the script, so he does say it.

 

No really. Rey Random is even more likely now. The Skywalker's curse will be cured by a "new family". It's a game changer and so far very integral to the Star Wars saga.

Balance maybe is just the light side working how it is supposed to work. Keeping the galaxy, the living things, the nature working how they are supposed to work (meaning even Death, or floods are supposed to be part of it).
Dark side may be any attempt to use those powers for selfish, personal purposes or to avoid/prevent events to happen.
That's how I feel...

 

I find myself agreeing with quite a bit of what you're saying. The way I see it, the Dark Side is a corrupting force (much like selfishness and other attributes aimed at the Dark Side), and if the prophecy to bring balance to the Force includes destroying the Sith, then the Force must have some predisposition towards the Light for the Sith/Dark Siders to be considered corrupting parties in this.

 

Somebody over at reddit pointed out that the stormtrooper shown at the Battlefront 2 panel fits the description of TLJ's stormtroopers that MSW put out a couple of months ago:

Notice how this version of the helmet has teeth! Also notice that the black gap at the corners of the mouth is much smaller than TFA's version of the helmet.
