Driver lowkey should have won or at least been nominated for Paterson.

of the main new characters from TFA I'd rank them like this AS ACTORS

    Adam Driver
    Oscar Isaac
    Domhnall Gleeson
    John Boyega*
    Daisy Ridley*

    * Both have big time roles coming out soon that could easily change all of this.

It wouldn't be fair to include the TLJ newbs like Del Toro and Dern because of how established they are.

I agree with your ranking. And yes, BDT is probably the best actor which Star Wars ever had.

More importantly, he looks like Darth Vader's grandson.

Hey, sorry to interrupt the Adam Driver discussion but can I go back to a comment Pablo made about not trusting or something to that effect when it came to our thoughts on Dern and BDT picture/names? Does this lead anyone to think that Dern's character could be seen as good on the surface but is truly bad and BDT looks bad but really is good in the end?

I think what he's really hinting at is that Holdo is dangerous in spite of her elegant look.

Also, a couple of days ago I found an interview which Laura Dern took in 2016 where she talks about her affinity towards playing unlikable characters. This comment wasn't made with any role in mind but may serve as sort of a indicator that points out what type of roles she may pick in the nearest future. I haven't seen Big Little Lies but apparently her character wasn't the nicest. Also, if we take a look a previous "pink ladies" in other franchises, like Dolores Umbridge, we see a clear pattern in how such women are portrayed. So, to put it bluntly, Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo will be a b*tch.

Why would he say that though? Wouldn't that be akin to someone saying in 1980 that this Lando guy might not be as bad as he seems? Just seems odd to throw that out there instead of letting the audience discover this throughout the film? I'm sure it's a minor detail in the grand scheme of things but just seemed unnecessary.

Probably to quell the dolts who like to make giant sweeping generalizations about casting and character tropes based on the casting.

My parents are watching that right now and I've heard that her character is bitchy, but sympathetic in a certain light. My guess is that TLJ will follow a similar path but will emphasize that she's not particularly a warm or helpful individual.

He would say it because it invites more speculation.

Vanity Fair (I think so much lately) mentioned a blaster hidden in her clothes. But fans even before the pictures have suspected Dern's character of treachery.

So he pops up with a warning that she is dangerous.

What does that confirm. Nothing but it invites interest in her character. It could be as simple as she knows how to handle herself or as complex as she is a double agent.

I loved Kylo. Finally a real anthagonist, with a mental issue (i hope they will keep showing this side of him), something terrible seens that happened to him in the past. Or even better, a creation of a character with some kind of esquizofrenia, or any other mental problem. My favorite character and acting from TFA. After so many terrible villains like Doku, Grievous and Anakin, they nailed this time in my opinion. He will be the greatest bad guy since Lord Vader.

Agreed, something I love about TFA is that all of the characters are relatable and portrayed as real people, not campy cartoonish sci-if characters. Ben Solo, underneath the mask, is a disturbed guy. He has issues, not just some one dimensional typical villain. I think Adam Driver has done a brilliant job portraying what the writers put down on paper. I for one thoroughly enjoyed TFA, and am excited for TLJ and the rest of the Sequel Trilogy.

hehe.. i love how both Adam Driver, and his character in the ST divides some people.

I have a close friend who was there with me on opening night for TFA... to this day he thinks Kylo is a rubbish villain, and he thinks the casting of Adam Driver was a mistake. We have had countless... literally countless arguments (friendly banter) about Driver/Ren.

I honestly think his casting was meant to do this. There is a huge responsibility on RJ and CT to take this character to where i think he is heading.. to a place where i think a larger percentage of viewers will jump on board with him over time. I genuinely think that most of those that dislike him.. will find his character (and Driver's skills behind that) growing on them as the ST progresses.

just a hunch though. I fully respect opinions that differ about the galaxy we all love... it would be a boring forum if we all thought the same.

I believe she may just want full controll of the Resistance.
    Or to say it better...
Given what happened to the New Republic in TFA, its leaders are now forced to take a side: with or against the First Order.

That said and taking into consideration what's been told in Bloodline (or just in Before the Awekening), she may be one of those in the new Republic
who weren't ready to fight against the FO before a clear provocation/act of war.

Now that it has happened, she wants to fight them but she doesn't want Leia to be the "chief" of this fight.
That can implies not only a rivalry between those two women but also a mutual goal between Holdo and the First Oreder.
As I said... the First Order wants Luke dead, she may want Leia out of the game.
And it could be useful to her an agreement with the FO just on this matter....
