True. There's only so much Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston-inspired that you can create an with time, more and more designs will differ from what we saw in the OT.

I don't remember so many sci-fi movies with samurai / medieval knights inspired designs. If there are, it's quite probably they're SW copies.

I think it has more to do with other sci fi movies trying to emulate star wars so then everything starts to blend eventually and everyone is "copying" everyone

Countless designers influenced by Star Wars who plunder it for inspiration.

BE WARNED: About to get super nerdy up in here...

Whilst the copper-necked version of Luke's lightsaber is his canonical lightsaber - and additionally the "Hero" prop for ROTJ - Mark Hamill actually primarily used something what the prop-enthusiast community have dubbed the "V2" (Version 2).

    FNY8HF8IDOD2M9I.RECT2100.jpg lukeje10.jpg
It got the majority of screen-time in ROTJ, is much more weathered and is actually a re-purposed Alec Guinness stunt lightsaber (if I recall correctly) from ANH - but with a few minor additional features such as a different activation plate, and a few additional greeblies (like the cylindrical cone / knob towards the pommel) - basically, just enough variation to make it unique enough, but still suggesting that Luke built this lighsaber inspired heavily by Obi-Wan's design. Now, this V2 lightsaber prop is the one that the developers of Battlefront 2015 gave Luke in-game (probably because it had the most screen-time in ROTJ) and therefore making the game as authentic as possible to the film. They've done this again for Battlefront II 2017, as the V2 can be seen in Luke's hand in the game's trailer.
    Capture.PNG
Furthermore, Obi-Wan's original lightsaber from ANH didn't possess the circular belt-clip you've indicated in your image edit - it used a D-ring, which looped onto a hook on his belt.
    sw331.jpg
    059e193f51cbf539702ee35f9b568200.jpg
The image you've provided is the ROTS version of Obi-Wan's lightsaber (long story short, the prequel lightsabers were sleeked down to fit the aesthetic of the prequels, but only partially resemble their OT counterparts, and were hung on the character's belts with the circular belt clip). Given the apprehension to willingly acknowledge the prequels openly, I doubt that this ROTS Obi-Wan design will ever be used again in canon - just utilised in merchandising. So I'm not at all convinced this is Obi-Wan's lightsaber that Rey is equipped with, instead believing that the image in question is just a stylised graphic of Luke's V2 lightsaber, as that's confirmed by the trailer to be in-game. Like the editorial posted on this site a few days ago, I don't believe that Rey now uses Obi-Wan's or Luke's second lightsaber - it's just a placeholder image or something along those lines due to the game being in pre-alpha stage, which will later be changed / rectified for the game's release.

I could be very wrong, but I feel like my reasoning is backed with evidence and my argument is sound (and somewhat sad, excessively written and downright pointless in the grand scheme of things...)

It's an unfinished Battlefront game made by a third party, it's not literally Episode VIII: The Lucasfilm Game. It's barely better than trying to figure out future Nintendo storylines from the latest edition of Smash Bros. or something.

Some of the stuff that comes out and gets turned into it must be a reveal or storyline to the rest of the trilogy is amusing.

Hey guys! sorry, I don't know if this already has been a post about this earlier, but I have a theory regarding Iden Versio, the Imperial Commander that you'll be playing in the single player campaign for Battlefront II. Is it possible that she could be the future wife of Luke? I haven't read the EU, but wasn't his wife or something an old imperial agent? :)

Mara Jade was, yes. But I find it incredibly unlikely that they'd hire an actress in her thirties play the the romantic interest to a man almost 30 years her senior.

From the sound of things, Luke did not marry. If he had a child, he wouldn't know of it.

I never said that they would introduce her in the movies, it would take to much time and focus, but what if they are trying to tell us her story within Battlefront II and Inferno Squad?

This is from the single player campaign which is suppose to be cannon if i'm not mistaken, but Isn't this her? Perhaps this is where they meet the first time, what if they met back right after Battle of Endor already? Maybe it's kinda farfetched and this is just a random made cutscene like yoda vs darth maul, but it's funny to play around with the idea..

i think i can safely say that with each piece of star wars news or canon released.. that we are all on Mara Jade watch (or a similar character). i don't know enough about Iden Versio yet to move to defcon 1... but it's interesting to say the least.

I mean, Since they did what they did with Kylo, why not do a alternative version of Mara Jade..from a PR perspective, if this is the case that she is who I think she is, the selling of the this game would go of the charts..which it already will, but still..it gives the fans even more reason to buy the game, just to know her story. Also it's a good oppertunity to cross the movies with other canons, in this case, single player in battlefront.

you are right about this game going off the charts.. my friend asked me last night if i'd seen the trailer for it. he hasn't played a video game in years and he can't wait to get it.

I personally think it would be a perfect way to introduce character like that as it will be reaching a huge Star Wars audience.. but other will disagree.

are elements of the campaign going to be canon? my limited google skills are failing me this afternoon
