To be honest. my advice for anyone active on social media, even if you are a nobody, is to keep some of your opinions to yourself, because you don't just risk being 'cancelled', or losing your job. These days many action groups see nothing wrong in using violence to prove their point. JK Rowling has received a number of death threats since comments she made led to three activists posting her address online.

I find the world is becoming a frightening place.

 

Tim Allen is a conservative, yet they didn't fire him for his Christmas show.

 

I know you're attempting to show double standards because Pedro Pascal share some strong opinions and hasn't been "fired". But as far as we know, Pedro wasn't invited to talk with his employer and gain awareness of how his comments affect the people he works with. And he hasn't refused and told them stuff it.

The world doesn't frighten me because lately it seems you receive feedback, criticism and backlash for saying anything. It has always been that way.

The last hundred years is full of people who have lost jobs after doing/saying something in private, that was later leaked to the public.


It's just possible for more people to know what you've said and react to it now. That's all.

The idea that at certain times it was, and still is for certain people, possible to say what you liked without pushback or consequence, just doesn't hold up to facts.

I'd urge people to go learn about how Muhammad Ali was treated by his own country. The Ken Burns Muhammad Ali documentary is a good place to start.

 

I'm no lawyer and I have been up for over 10 hrs. doing a remote inspection in India but, I know if I was Disney, I would be quaking in my boots over the discovery phase. Any email related to this will more than likely end up plastered all over the place with Elon involved.
Fighting the House of Mouse is apparently no longer a daunting task.

 

In another characteristically petulant lawsuit. Let's just say that Elon has never been daunted suing anyone.

It seems that her case is that she suffered "harassment" from people displeased with her comments and her not allowing herself to be bullied into promoting and endorsing people and their lifestyles. And that the purpose of the meeting she was invited to was to be harassed and bullied in person. Which justifies her refusal to attend.

Rumour has it that her contract was honored. Her being "terminated" was just her being informed that she would be free to accept other roles when they were developing and shooting S3 of Mandalorian and while her contract ran out.

The fact that she is demanding roles in future Lucasfilm/Star Wars projects as compensation is utterly ludicrous and speaks volumes of the seriousness of this litigation.

 

It isn't; I was just showing proof I hadn't imagined it.

WOW. You are really comparing Gina Carano's tweets to Muhammad Ali's stance against the Vietnam War??!? SMH.

 

No I think they're pointing out that, historically, people have experienced consequences for what they've said and that it's not a new thing invented to suppress views on certain current issues. Rather than equate the nature and validity of the comments themselves.

 

I think this is the point. Pedro can make offensive statements online without being called in for re-education because Disney agrees with his offensive statements.

This part of the article indicates that she did go to the meetings, but that they were becoming excessive:

"Even when she expressed that [Lucasfilm and Disney's] demands were excessive and asked for some time away from the constant meetings, [the companies] refused, demanding that she continue with her 're-education' program."

 

How do you know Pedro’s comments offended or affected his colleagues and needed to have a meeting to discuss this?

 

I know exactly what the poster was attempting to point out. The comparison failed for a wide range of reasons.

Soooooooooooo...Disney tried to address the problem but Gina essentially said, 'I'm not attending your stupid meetings any more.'

But somehow SHE was 'wrongfully terminated' when Disney decided not to renew her contract for a third season? SMH.

 

Both people experienced backlash and a change in employment circumstances. That’s the comparison.
