Had TFA and TLJ pleased fans, would TROS be the end?

I don’t recall Luke ever eulogising his father’s sacrifice either. It’s not something that happens in Star Wars. She did choose to honour all the Skywalker by adopting their name.

I'm not a fan of TROS, but it's clear what they were going for with Ben saving Rey and Leia saving her son. The execution was difficult with the passing of Fisher, but it is what is is... the Skywalkers saved the day again and Rey adopted the mantle. It could have been better, but the family saga ending there works for me. No more Skywalker children is probably a good thing for the galaxy after the last 50 years.

I think SW is for the younglings now. Maybe it's for the best, as the franchise will be around forever, and old 'uns like me won't!

I'm not asserting it must work for you. I am not one who believes people must see art from one perspective of quality judgement or another, which is why critics mean very little to me.

I was only answering that one aspect where you wanted the sequel trilogy to be about Skywalkers. It is about Skywalkers.
There's almost no other epic, and few movies, where the "villain" isn't really a villain but is a secondary protagonist whom the audience is expected to sympathize with and feel tragic sorrow for.

Aristotle, nearly 2,500 years ago, stated, "A perfect tragedy should...imitate actions which excite pity and fear."

Given your frustrations with Ben's death, I'd say the character was successfully endeared to you through these fundamental devices.

As far as I can tell, it appears to me that the principal issue you have with the movie is that it didn't give a final curtain call for the character you personally favored.
That happens. I'm not here to tell you that you should change your mind on that.

I watched Top Gun: Maverick and was bored. A voluminous number of people were thrilled and delighted. That's how it goes.
    It's art.

The danger of art which all should be cautious of is when an artwork or artwork series becomes a personalized religion. When one cannot permit a distinguished tolerance for what one personally has come to define as that art and that art's entitlement to tread in direction wherever it wishes to explore.

Musicians experiences this on a constant basis. Almost every band on the market has ticked off their early fans with a commercially successful album and ticked off their commercial fans with a later experimental or personal album.

I would say, perhaps, Star Wars has a track record with its fans that seems to be about on par with the band Weezer.

So, yes. It doesn't work for you, the movie. In spite of it being about Skywalkers, it just doesn't work for you. That's okay. No one's forcing you to stare at the art.

    Cheers,
    Jayson
