One could assume Ben want to the scrap yard Finn was told about and found a working TIE Fighter or something after Rey left, and that he simply got there by memory.

But how did the entire Allied fleet manage to hyperspace into the Exegol system?

Did Rey's message from her X-wing give the exact coordinates?

Not a make or break moment for me, but my OCD makes it me need a believable answer. Lol

I believe Ben used his memory, and the allied fleet lost many ships on the journey, they winged it. I know there was a lot of ships that showed up, but I like to believe that when the message came around, a lot more brave people were willing to fight.

Yeah, Rey was transmitting correspondence signals to map the route for the Resistance. Everyone including Lando would've had the correspondence route, and Lando would've transmitted it to the other ships that gathered.

Ben had already been there so would remember the basics, but given what we know about the force (for example Qui-Gon's "the force will guide us" when traversing the core) I think it's fair to say that he used the force to guide him through the retrace of the proverbial obstacle course more than memory.

Yup. Exactly this. The film is quite clear that Rey transmits the route to the rest of the Resistance.

It's only difficult to imagine some of the ships navigating the area, but most of TROS's story elements, rushed though they might be, make sense with the story's internal logic and without outside explanation.

Aside from the logistics of how the story of Ochi's ship, Rey's parents, and how he died before he could go back to Jakku after killing them played out, the only thing that I'm still confused about is the fact that Kylo Ren used an Imperial TIE fighter. Those didn't have hyperdrives, so I'm not sure how he would have returned.

The only explanation i see is that they wanted to include a nostalgia shot of a classic x-wing and a classic tie fighter side by side...
Since 1977 they're hammering on us that standard Tie's have no shield and no hyperdrive, but they throw that all away for the sake of a blink and you'll miss it moment...
I may be wrong but i care for those kinds of things and if not for those lacks of respect for established lore/continuity the movie would've fared so so much better for me.
Same thing about the X-wing s-foil/door...when she goes to get the Leia lightsaber you can even see the wing still used as a door to the hut.
Then X-wing come out of water, no pieces missing!

I understand how such a seemingly blatant canon mix up can be frustrating, but I guess there could be explanations for it if you're looking to suspend your disbelief just a bit.

I mean, there are dozens of TIE variants. Why couldn't there simply be one that looks like a standard Imp TIE, but with an internal hyperdrive?

It might have been awkward if there was a line about how Ben got to Exegol, but a visual clue would have helped. Like, if we had seen a TIE in the wreckage of the DS2 then we could piece it together ourselves. Even better would be that we saw Vader's X1 in the wreckage of the DS2 and THAT is what Ben flies to Exegol. That ship had hyperdrive and it's Ben's grandfather's ship AND it would have looked cool next to Luke's X-Wing; a call back to the trench run in ANH.

Yes, that's why they could have made him fly one that VISUALLY would have tell us 'oh, that make sense''

    There you have it

Except then you wouldn't have the image of the classic-seeming ships together.

I mean, I think we both know that this was done exactly for that shot. But I guess this could be an alternative to being upset by it.

I think Vader's TIE would accomplish the same thing and more. It's certainly classic and would do the job for casual fans and mean much more to hardcore fans with the connections between Ben, Vader and Luke. It would also solve the "no hyperdrive" issue for nitpickers like me :)(vader)(tie)(kylo ren)(x-wing 2)(luke)(x-wing)

I don't think the piece that Luke used to fix the door was the entire wing. I also don't remember to have seen a good shot of the x-wing in TROS. So, this doesn't bother me at all.

Vader's TIE would have been very cool, and worked for slightly different reasons, but for me the standard(-looking!) TIE worked great, however it got there... I do love that shot of the TIE and the X-Wing when Ben arrives.

Just out of curiosity, where does it say that the door was made from the wing of Luke's ship? I don't remember any mention of it in TLJ itself. Was it the novel or the visual dictionary or something?

I wonder if Luke's X-Wing could still have been space-worthy without that part. I see cars driving with big pieces missing all the time. Maybe that piece wasn't absolutely necessary for flight. Also, just because it's said as an extra on a DVD, that seems wishy washy canonically.

Maybe we needed Finn to say “they hyperdrive now?” :D

Well @cawatrooper already posted that picture that I think its from the Visual dictionary. But I think I remember RJ talking about this during the commentaries of TLJ on the Bluray.

Because I'm a big nerd, is the visual dictionary considered canon by Disney?
