So pretty simple question. How did you rate The Last Jedi after your second viewing compared to your first?

I remember feeling a bit flat after seeing Rogue One but on my second viewing I loved it. In contrast I loved Attack of the Clones when I first saw it but after repeated viewings started to have serious problems with it.

I'm seeing TLJ a second time after Christmas so will add my thoughts after. On first viewing I liked it although it needed time to sink in.

I'm one who liked it on the first viewing, but the second viewing allowed me to better digest the story and minor details that I missed the first time.

1st time = overshadowed by excitement
    2nd time = I understood everything better

This is pretty much my experience. The first viewing messed with my head - it really didn't go the way I expected, plus I was at the edge of my seat the entire time.

Second time, I was more relaxed and I was able to let everything wash over me and take in so much more. And I don't think I got everything yet. More viewings will follow. ;)

But, while I liked it the first time, I love it now.

    I'll be honest.

Before even stepping foot into the cinema, I'd already read the entire Visual Dictionary and all of the children's books, read every spoiler out there, listened to the entire soundtrack and read through an entire script of the film. When I got into my seat, I was steeling myself for the blast-storm to come. I was already opposed to the choices that he had made, and whilst I appreciated some of the overarching themes, I simply did not like the story that he had written... However, I was convinced that RJ could make this work on the big screen, unfortunately... everything fell flat for me. Nothing hit home in the way I was hoping it would. I almost didn't want any of what I had just seen to be real.

The second viewing just confirmed that the film wasn't for me.

Now, I do not, and can not take these films in isolation. They are part of a greater saga and depending on what happens in IX, this could completely change my opinion of VIII.

But it is what it is for now.

It's not a very difficult film to take in, in terms of mechanics and complexities. I did see it twice though and... sadly, it just does not resonate with me.

Humour feels off to me, I don't care for the new characters in this film (in comparison to TFA), OT characters present are now minimal which is fine, sub plots (canto bight) do not really work that well. I credit RJ with changing things up, but not quite for me.

Admiral Ackbar deserved more </3 - RIP. haha.

I for the most part understood everything that was going on when I saw it the first time (except for the last 15-20 minutes) but there were sooooo many smaller things that I either didn't fully comprehend or just flat out missed. That's where the second viewing helped me the most. It didn't change much about how I felt about the film, it just gave me a better overall experience because the awe of everything was gone.

After two viewings I'm still feeling depressed. I'm deeply saddened at how unfulfilling the film was for me.

I was expecting to love this film so much that I booked two viewings one day after the other. The first being a midnight viewing. After first viewing I was heartbroken at how it didn't feel like a SW movie (for me). I left the cinema feeling totally empty. I went in a second time reluctantly and I enjoyed it somewhat the second time. As days have gone by I realised I forced myself to like the film, I was lying to myself. I have so much love for SW and have devoted so much time to this franchise and TLJ left me feeling depressed.

Rian Johnson has not made enough films to have taken on a project of this magnitude. His inexperience shows in TLJ. I think he had some good ideas but the execution didn't land with too many people. Perhaps with a more experienced director we would have had a more fulfilling SW experience.

The first viewing had so much shock-factor (and I mean that in a positive way), and i felt very happy. The second viewing was helpful for digesting the story and letting everything sink in, and I like it even more.

    Slightly better on second one.

Still far from "generations untings masterpiece" its ovestatement that hurts .

I am confirming the Luke Skywalker arc is OK, It satissfies me.Probably Luke's arc saves the film.

But the film is in its entirety, for me, bad.
    And boring.

Luke's arc makes it Star Wars, ok I am putting it on my list of Star Wars movies..

This is exactly how I feel and what I did. I bought tickets for later tonight before I even watched it on Thursday night expecting that I would love it so much I’d be seeing it multiple times anyways. Since I did watch TFA in theaters 5 times. Then the movie ended and I was actually a little depressed. I was so sad with myself that I didn’t enjoy this movie. My first initial thought was that I didn’t even have a desire to watch it again. Besides the snoke scene it did nothing for me and left a scar on my love for Star Wars. I feel like I have nothing to look forward to in terms of this franchise anymore. Although my 2nd viewing is tonight but based off how much I disliked it the first time I doubt much will change.

Was blown away after my first viewing (despite readily admitting the film has flaws and a few flat moments for me), but was so overwhelmed by what I liked, it washed those issues away with nary a thought.

Second viewing only enhanced my love for it. Really gave me a chance to soak in scene by scene and enjoy the performances, nuances and layers.

My second viewing went better than the first. I feel in retrospect the trailer sold me The Dark Knight.. what I saw was The Dark Knight Rises. I don't hate TLJ, but at the same time I don't want to #@&$ it.
I think everything on Ach-To is golden. I don't have have a problem with the decisions made made about legacy characters. I don't even have a problem with "welcome home." And I LMFAO'd to the copious humor.
But this film seriously rubbed me wrong way. I felt, even after the second viewing, that LFL was admonishing the fan base for several things. It came across to me as: They don't want us to speculate, and they don't want us to defend their work. And you do see that message being echoed in various puff pieces on the internet: "We" are the problem with Star Wars.

I'm planning my third viewing for next week. What else will I find in the movie? Every time there is something new: a nod to the CT, a nod to prequels, etc...

Note, I haven't seen the movie for a second time. But I will be this holiday weekend.

The Last Jedi and its reception I actually find fascinating. It kind of reminds me of Empire Strikes Back in the strictest sense of critical reception. And really, if you compare both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi they are very different films. To use a food analogy, The Force Awakens is like that of a supped up cheeseburger.

Its actual plot leaves a lot to be desired and uses similar ingredients from other movies, but also gives some changes. The Last Jedi is like a filet mignon in how different it is. The movie is paced, edited and filmed so differently. And in my view, it both presents familiar ideas, flavors, but also subverts them into different things.

And is a bit overindulgent with its fat, namely the Canto Bight stuff? But ultimately, it is hard to deny how bold and ambitious it is. And yeah, I liked the film, but really I do question if LucasFIlm went too far?

Yeah, I know; someone is going to accuse me of being a hypocrite. But really, I think there is a middle ground to follow. Because the movie itself felt like the end of a Saga. I guess that is a good thing as Episode Nine which to be honest I'm more mildly curious than excited.

Because, this movie reveals a big gripe I have with this ST: a lack of consistency. The OT had this issue, but the characters and main trilogy narrative were there. Namely, the Luke and Vader stuff.

Really, my sentiments could change upon a second viewing as this movie is so rich in terms of what it delivers. But really, I am most curious as to see how cinema and people remember this movie as?

Will this be like Empire Strikes Back and have near-universal consensus? Or will this movie be like Back to the Future Part 2? A necessary, but mixed part of this trilogy?
