Seen it 4 times and my relationship with it is moving from infatuation to unconditional love. I never dreamed of being swept away by a SW film (especially after TFA) again.

I watched TPM numerous times at the cinema, when I was 14/15 and that was when was getting into Star Wars (after loving the 1997 special edition releases). But my fandom kicked off with AOTC. And when That whole last third had me squealing with delight - especially the Yoda/Dooku battle. Alas, as years have passed, I can see it isn’t a great film by any means and I struggle to get through it now.

With RotS I didn’t like the first viewing. Probably because of mix of being overly spoiled and being too fixed on some stupid theories I had. Second viewing I loved it and I have progressively enjoyed it since though again, recognise it isn’t a great film and don’t watch it very often.

All the OT films I love and I could watch Empire once a week. Interestingly, Empire the first film I remember watching. I was about 4 and I recall having it on a VHS recorded from TV. I don’t know whether it’s a case of it being engrained in my consciousness or not, but nothing compared to Empire...until now. TLJ just has everything I would want in a SW film. And I’m happy that my 33 year old self can enjoy it on the level my teenage self enjoyed the other movies.

    Oh, RO...yeah it’s decent. ;)

Seen it 4 times and my rating will remain the same. It's a 7/10 and I won't go higher than that.

But I've never seen a SW film more than twice at the theater. I saw TFA and RO twice. I periodically watch ESB all the time, it's my favorite film (I'd love to see how ESB adherents take to TLJ). I'll watch ANH sometimes after watching RO, lol. It works nicely like that. I only watch pieces of ROTJ. If I ever...which is very rarely and usually out of a macabre fascination....watch the prequels, it's usually a fan-edit of the three films, or of solely ROTS.

There's an openness of interpretation to much in TLJ like there was to ESB. What is the lesson? What is the choice and consequence to the choice of this character? What is possible? It's an invitation to imagination, not a history of fact and motivation, nor an exercise in logic. It's not Spock saying what is logical, its Spock saying "Fascinating" and that sly bit of inquisitive nature that SW invites with the use of masks, aliens, use of constant subversion of characters' fate, and it's linguistic contradictions in Yoda's language, Palpatine's insidiousness, and subversion (and now possible reformation) of Jedi dogma regarding attachment.

And the fact that nobody knows where the story goes from here is part of that. The Mortis arc, which I'm not even a fan of, is similar. There's no perfectly logical explanation for what it means or how it affects the characters, and yet....we still talk about it because it's about choices, good, evil, and consequences. The prophecy, which is still debated over, was also subverted....and we don't even know where or who it came from, lol.

I think the whole of TLJ is challenging in that way, and while I don't think it's necessarily a masterpiece of filmmaking, it gets back to the root of the same invitation to imagine and interpret, the challenge to find wisdom in the good and bad choices and consequences of the characters. It's there also in the prequels, albeit in a dry, uneven way with an cringeworthy amphibian rabbit, dialogue, and crammed editing. Some of that sloppy editing is there in TLJ, and it's why I won't budge my rating up from a 7/10. But I love what TLJ does for a 40 year old franchise that didn't ask Luke to debrief his casting away of the targeting computer, it just asked you to let go and believe he could do it, and he did. Like Luke doesn't ask Rey why she can do what she can do. He believes it. And he learns to trust it by the end of the film, as he "will not be the last Jedi."

After seeing TLJ for the second time I went from really liking it to loving it. Mostly because there was so much to take in during the first movie to fully process it. TLJ really takes steps to move SW forward. While most of us loved the OT Ithink it is best if we start letting go of our preconceived notions of what should or needs to happen in SW. If SW is to stay fresh then it needs to continue to evolve. It can still feel like the SW of old but be different. TLJ has started to do that JJ has come out and said IX will be different as well. At this point we can only wait and see. I’m excited to see where it goes.

I expected to like it better the second time around (the first time was all shock and being overwhelmed).
What I didn't expect was for it to emotionally resonate on so many more levels the second time around.
Teared up 5 or 6 times - not really a normal thing either thanks to upbringing and a general jadedness.

I liked it a lot more the second time. There was a lot to take in the first time, so I was able to fully grasp it more the second time around.

The movie gets progressively better with each viewing. There's less shell shock to all the events and you can just really dig into it.

@Ruralfarmboy Yes!! My sons and I talked about more after the 2nd viewing. I absolutely love this movie and will be watching it a LOT on DVD. Some things that I picked up on the 2nd time - Adam Driver’s Kylo was incredible. Luke was amazing, love his scene with R2 and also the wink at 3PO....did you notice it was R2 that changed Luke’s mind on the way forward? Oscar Isaac did great with Poe - love the final scene where Poe yells “follow me” everyone looks at Leia and she asks “why are u looking at me, follow him”. Yes the movie has faults but there are so many many special moments that overcome the faults.

Yeah, went to see it again for a second time. To be honest, my sister dragged me to see it again. And after this second viewing . . . I still dislike it. Furthermore, I found something new (quite minor, really) to complain about.

The second time gave me to actually enjoy the movie. The first time i had no time to recover from some of those in your face moments. However, i still think the Canto Bight chase is cheesy with those horse things. I remember the first time when Rose heard the sound, i was hoping it was the sound of pod racers LOL!

I have to admit, if I’m going to moan about anything, it’s the opening crawl. It didn’t read well to me. Especially the middle paragraph. I had to re-read it quickly on my first viewing!
