Well the highs were higher and the lows were lower. For example I was anticipating the fight between the Praetorians and enjoyed the choreography without having to process Snoke's death. I had more fun enjoying the visually outstanding scenes since I could enjoy them focused on their beauty rather than having to concentrate on following the story. Some elements connected better when watching the movie the second time. For some reason I had missed the aprt where Finn picked up the beacon and he felt less like an a**hole for leaving the resistance when I realized: Okay, that guy hasn't been planning on leaving the resistance beforehand. He just saw a chance to help Rey and he took it.

Things that got a lot worse were many, if not most of the jokes. Jokes usually get less funny the more often you hear them but BB-8's lighter thumbs up still makes me smile when I rewatch TFA. But Hux prankcall. Man it was painful the second time and it's a really long sequence too. I also noticed how some of the pacing issues got worse. Like Rey spent days on Anch-To with frequent day and night cycles but the Raddus had only fuel for 18 hours and somehow these plotlines were intercut as if they were taking place at the same time.

Overall I could enjoy the movie more since I was way more relaxed, knowing the story and looking forward to some really cool scenes but I couldn't help notice that TLJ can be a little long-winded at times. I'm pretty sure that when watching this movie in the future I will definitely skip certain parts. My oppinion about TLJ was sglightly betetr when watching it the second time but it didn't make that much of a difference. What will make a difference however is how IX can connect TLJ, TFA and the whole Sequel trilogy with the overall saga. That's what I am really looking forward to.

Bonus: While I didn't think of this the first time watching the movie we basically see naked alien boobies when Luke milks the Thala-Sirens. Not the Twi'lek ladies I had been hoping for but hey, it's a start :)

First viewing: definitely sensory overload, but I loved it!
Second viewing: I was still overwhelmed but definitely appreciated and understood the film more

I have seen the film three times and am watching it for the fourth time tomorrow and, personally, every viewing gets better and better.

I enjoyed it even more, catching all the things I missed the first time, Luke's invisible foot prints on Crait, Jedi text on the Falcon...

I had very mixed feelings the first time, but overall felt pretty disappointed. I enjoyed it much more the second time and am looking forward to seeing it again.

I too enjoyed it considerably more after a second viewing. Great movies improve with repeated viewings, while poor movies disintegrate. A perfect example of the opposite effect is AOTC. Thought it was pretty damn good the first time but grew to (mostly) loathe it after 3 or 4 viewings. I'm on my 4th viewing of TLJ and it just keeps getting better.

Without doubt I enjoyed more after second viewing too. Definetly is better. But, this could not mean is a better movie than we thought.
Let me explain without boring you.
If we have to wait until second viewing to appreciate if it's a good movie (any movie), probably it's not that good. If you know what I mean. If we take the example of TFA, and here i put my exemple, the first viewing was already brilliant. I enjoyed the first time, the second, and all 7-10 others equally.
Viewing TLJ I have the feeling of "prequel sensation", except, I have to say, in TLJ i absolutely love all the acting without any exception and visually is more accurate of what i expected in a SW movie.
With prequels i remember they were ok. It's Star Wars and blah blah. Second veiwings were better but some times, when i see it, depending on my mood, they are good and sometimes not. I considered Revenge of the Sith a really good movie. But last month I saw TFA and Rogue One before Revenge again, and I thought E3 was bad. Sometimes is better TPM, sometimes is better AOTC, sometimes Revenge. Sometimes any of them. But i keep watching it, you know, cause it's SW. ;)
I repeat what some people keep saying this days, and I think is quite accurate. TLJ is not a bad movie, but it's a really bad sequel. There is no good continuity with character development, and the precipìtation, for being a second chapter, is there. The freedom to do this sequel probably plays against it, just my opinion.
People can say anything about JJ and Kasdan, but Kasdan is an old school writer and character development is one of his big qualities. JJ could be this or that for many people, and TFA can be a remake or whatever, but his work in that film was nearly perfect. They stablished great characters with great expectatives, and the sensation watching TLJ this point is forgotten or gone.
I really don't mind the risks Rian takes (really love Rey/Ren relation and profundity), but the coherennce has to be there. Another missed oportunity, that's why i supouse I have mixed feelings.

Hope you understand my english :p

I saw TLJ for the second time yesterday. I really enjoyed it first time around although had to let it sink in. I hoped I'd just be able to just sit back and enjoy it second time but ultimately I felt myself trying to study every detail to see if the backlash criticisms held up for me.

I'd probably say about 90% don't and around 10% do. The 10% really boil down to a handful of things.
    1. The way in which the Leia's force awakening was done. It just looks and feels wrong to me.
    2. One or two lines missing to make it clearer why Poe is kept in the dark about the Crait plans when he declare's mutiny.
    3. A tightening of the story a little around Canto Bight.
    4. No sense of remorse from Poe about lives lost due to his poor decisions. I'd address and explore this in Ep9 if I was JJ.

The thing I really struggled with last time was Snoke's death and lack of back story but I don't now, in fact in many ways I think this makes the prospect of Episode 9 more interesting. As to Luke I never had any issue with his character and arc and still don't.

I'd say I enjoyed the experience of watching it less purely because I was looking to understand the backlash however my appreciation for how good it is has grown. I tend to watch the films twice at the cinema so I think by the time I watch again on Blu-ray I'll really enjoy it.

Still a 9/10 for me and 3rd favourite.

After my second viewing I still feel the same. Taken on it's own, I think it's a great movie. But within the context of Star Wars, the ST, and everything TFA set up, I think it leaves a lot to be desired. I honestly don't think I'll be able to finalize my opinion on TLJ until episode 9 comes out & I see where they go with it. But for now, I think it's a film filled with a lot of missed potential.

I'm the one guy on planet Earth apparently who loved it the first time, and liked it more the second time.

Oddly, my oldest AND youngest sons (27 and 23. BOTH huge SW fans) thought it was good, but not great.

I'm now aware that they have dubious tastes and will treat them both accordingly.

No, you're not. I've seen in for the third time today and I just love this film. I simply do. Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face.

Same here. I just came out of th theather. Was even better in the 3rd time. Some parts of the movie I already consider as epics! The entire Snoke Throne room and the gran finale with the Battle of Crait and Luke x Kylo are examples.
Even DJ that I didnt care much a bout it in the 1st viewing I liked. The Dont Join message is very powerfull.

I thought it was good, not great, the 1st time; and other than thinking it’s too long, my opinion didn’t change much.

Yes! For me, maybe a bit darker on the first go around. The loss of Luke at the end was really heartbreaking. I wasn’t ready for that. I came out of the movie feeling like my wife left me, I got fired, and my pets disowned me. But going into it knowing what to expect and just enjoying the ride was amazing. For me it is now 1a): Empire; 1b): TLJ

It's interesting this thread is up, I have just created a video all about the 2nd viewing of TLJ.

I'll post it here as it encapsulates my full thoughts. It's too much to type, watch or ignore are your discretion..

I walked into the first viewing totally spoiled... pissed off, unenthusiastic and prepared to hate it - then walked out pleasantly surprised

After the 2nd viewing, I like it even more

Certainly not my favorite SW film ever, and has some tremendous holes (as many of us have observed), but there’s still plenty to like about it, IMHO

I feel about the same after seeing TLK twice. I like what I liked and hate what I hated. I will say I love the Lightsaber battle and I think it may be one of the best if not the best Lightsaber battle. I also have to say TLK has killed my interest in any SW's merch related to TLK unless it's Rey merch or Black Series Like figures.
