My biggest fear is that all of this is only marketing bluff.
We were bluffed since TPM came out. Remember the TPM posters annoucing Darth Maul: everybody was driven crazy by that promising new super villain. In fact, he says 3 words and has 2 minutes of action in the movie, then dies.
Then we got the TFA trailers: a sandy and desert planet, "Chewie we're home", and so on... the whole fandom was shouting "back to Tatooine! we're back to Tatooine!!!". Finally it was once more a bluff, a twin planet that seems Tatooine but in fact, is not.
RO trailer? a lot of inviting aliens (Moroff, the doorgunner, ...) and in fact a main team with no alien. The black-hooded that kneels in front of the bacta tank? A minion. I do not speak about these infamous scenes in the trailers that are not in the final movie!
My fear has perfectly been stated by @Oneforceonebalance:
    you cracked the code.
I bet porgs will appear less than one minut in the movie. They are sooooo cute, yes, but they have been so-designed only to sell plushes to the children. I bet they will have no consistency in the movie, just run around like chicks, emitting some frightened "piew, piew".
Canto Bight people? I bet they'll get barely the same amount of screentime and weight than Maz' people in TFA.

Agreed. Quasi-every movie of the saga get its own species/aliens.

Don't deal in absolute ;) Nothing is all white or all black. It's a matter of balance : the wish is NOT to "find the same 8 alien species all over the entire galaxy", it's to get a part of "old" (= already known) aliens mixed with a bunch of new ones.
Nobody complains about Yoda that wears the same jacket from TPM to Dagobah, as if there were no washing-machine in the GFFA. Sometimes, recalling some stuff from movie to movie helps to tie the things together. May be the same for living species I think...

(ps) I'm neither clouded nor pessimistic... I just have been too many times disappointed. ;)

Oh, I agree completely with you. It's exciting to see all of these new species and creature designs, because I think it continues in the footsteps of the other films by introducing new and exciting creative ideas. I'm just saying that it's weird because you'd think, on Jakku or in Maz's Castle, for example, where there are a large and diverse amount of creatures, it's strange that NONE of them are ones we've seen before. Not that it's necessarily bad, but it's just a bit unbelievable, I suppose, when many of these creatures could be found anywhere in the other films. I mean, I find it hard to believe that they're all extinct now and that now we only have new aliens. That's all I'm saying. I love that they're introducing all of these new creatures, though!

Yeah. Canto Bite seems to be a real popular place. There should b at least 1 Rodian or Twi'lek or Hutt or Pantoran or Torgruta or Nemodian or Bith......

    But not all at once.

My thoughts on Porgs and such...
Got not a problem with 'em... we ain't even got 'em yet an' I Love 'em.
Even though they'll be incidental back ground creatures that'll take up but moments of the story, we'll still go Way outta our way to Love 'em to Death.

The Porgs are great. Their design is bringing me back to my TFA hopes, and the Miyazaki Tone. I won't get my hopes up though, they are probably just mindless background fodder.

After hearing the sounds they make, the Porg's might get on my nerves a bit now.

But then that's even less reason for me to be concerned if they're all just sneeze-and-you'll-miss-them background characters, which as I previously stated accounts for most of the original Cantina and many of Jabba's Palace who have never returned. All I said was I look forward to see them moving, which was specifically why I used the words "seeing them in motion" as opposed to "action". I love the little robot alien guy who shouts at Rey as she's cleaning parts. I love Garindan. I love Droopy McCool. I even think Two Tubes is my absolutely favorite alien so far, just love his language. These guys have only a few seconds of screen time each but they're memorable to me in bringing spirit to their scenes.

They've also never turned up in another movie again (yet)... doesn't matter, it's part of the fun :)

I agree , old Two Tubes has been my favourite new alien .
It would just be nice to throw a couple of old classics around like Hammerheads , Rodians and the like.

Yeah, the Porgs don't do it for me, as they look to me like they were pulled off of a shelf at a local Walmart and tossed into a SW film...just not believable enough. :(

Here's a good "never c the same aliens again" anology.

Say you go on a bigggg ### cruise ship out of Miami. Around 25% of the tourists r from around the world. The rest American. Then you take 7 more cruises & plan on taking 1 a year until 2032 (remember the 15 more years of SW movies quote?).

Chances are you'll run into people from the same countries you met on earlier cruises. Or in the GFFA aliens!

Considering many recent pics of Chewie & them, I can see a strong bond developing.

    Do you mean...

Do you mean that...that... that horrible carpet will capture some of these lovable porgs and grill them at the spit, under the soft glow of the night, well sheltered under the Falcon?

Can't wait to see them, they sound delicious.
I've taken a strict "no trailers" policy since the movies aren't going for epic twists or rugpulls, I find modern trailers tell waaaay too much and give major plot-points away if you've ever seen a movie, ever.
