How much involvement do you think Snoke had with Kylo abandoning the Jedi Order?

hahaha ~ i love these crack theories! for this one, i'm having a hard time believing 10 year-old Ben Force-bonding with Luke's squeeze. that's almost creepier than Snoke. also, Luke banishing a woman who "seduced" him sounds so punk i want to slap that Jedi loser.

so i'm going to vote no on this one basically because it makes everyone crumballs.

Hey, I wasn't saying they Force bonded. I'm saying Kylo would have been susceptable to this sort of influence, as he didn't relate to his family and would have craved external adult validation.

And geez, I wasn't saying he banished her cos of the seduction, he may not even remember it, lol, if she fed him too much Corelluan brandy, but because he found out she was spying on him, or up to her own dark agenda.

I think Snoke has used many people, in many different ways, the creep. Not only is he a snake, but he's like the spider pulling all the threads and making his puppets dance.

hahaha ~ Luke can't hold his liquor; now that i can believe! it still all feels a little weirdly Freudian, but why the heck not?

Interesting theory. I got one for you that's related to this, but I'm not sure how plausible it is:

We know Snoke was interested in taking Kylo as an apprentice because of his heritage and his family's strong force connection, so what if Snoke tasked a woman to romance Luke and produce a force-sensitive child from that seduction, that child of course being Rey. Snoke predicted that a child of Luke's would be strong with the force and a viable apprentice. However, at some point Rey's mother had a change of heart and didn't want her child to become Snoke's apprentice.

How this could've came about I'm not sure. Maybe Rey's mother vanished from Luke, without Luke ever finding out she was pregnant. Instead of giving up her child to Snoke, she becomes emotionally attached to Rey and therefore gave her up to the Church of the Force to grow up under the watch of Lor San Tekka, out of the hands of Snoke. However, because of her betrayal, Rey's mother is eventually killed by Snoke, but Snoke never finds out where Rey was hidden.

Hey, I reckon its just fun to play with the crack theories and worry about plausibility later sometimes. People get a bit too hung up on trying to be right and wrong, and they miss half the fun, taking it to seriously. I love comming up with crack theories, and then debunking them.

I can think of no evidence to contradict the furst part of your theory, but I don't know about the second part. You see Rey getting left with Plutt as a child, not COTF or Tekka, and she seems to have no real contact with them. And somewhere in the novel iI think it mentiones Rey getting left was a mistake She pretty much grows up taking xare of herself as a scavenger for the most part.

I think LST was working with COTF on his own quest, figuring out where the first Jedi temple was, which he did on Jakku not too long before Poe turned up. Surely he can't have had the info long, he wouldn't have withheld it from Leia.

I do think there's a high chance Snoke has a lot to do with the fate of Rey's mother, but it won't be obvious to the other characters. Snoke's too clever at pulling the strings behind the scenes for that.

Maybe Luke and Rey's Mother both wanted to find the first Jedi temple at some point. Maybe Rey's Mother was on Jakku with Rey, figuring out the last peice of the puzzle in the Temple map, and she did figure out the map and other important details, and then had to rush off and so Rey was left on Jakku? Then something happened to Rey's Mother. Either Snoke got to her, or the path to the Jedi temple got a little tricksy.

    • In explaining the character of Kylo Ren, Abrams draws a strong connection from his turn to the Dark Side and his parents’ fractured relationship. Making matters worse was Supreme Leader Snoke, who knew the child of Han Solo and Princess Leia would be powerful and targeted Ben from an early age, corrupting him and then recruiting him to the First Order.

    Crumbs:

Adam Driver. Abrams introduced Driver as the actor to whom the “dark side of the Force awakens.” I thought that line was interesting because it may imply that the dark side was sleeping as well. Apparently the awakening was not just for Rey, but Kylo as well. Adam Driver spoke about Kylo and his motivations. Driver said that the character was mainly motivated by the feelings of abandonment from his family.

Abrams also added some backstory saying that Han couldn’t stay in one place and that Leia couldn’t stop fighting. His nature as a rogue and her nature as a freedom fighter clashed. Against that backdrop, Snoke targeted Kylo because of his powers and potential. The implication was that in the absence of solid parenting, Kylo Ren emerged.

Yeah I like all of this and it proves that even the slightest fracture in a family can lead someone down a very dark path ...

this feels so vindicating. no idea how many arguments i have had with people who insist that Ren is just a power-crazed psycho.

that's not the character i see on the screen at all; perhaps it's a projection of what people expect from Dark siders?

Indeed. It's interesting how much further it goes though in regards to telling us how Han was basically a bad parent, buggering off all the time and how he felt abandoned justifiably by them (as Han was being a rogue and Leia was always fighting/working). Leia sending Kylo away to Luke must've really been the final straw. It makes things a lot clearer - especially Kylo's problem with Han and saying he was weak and foolish. I thought it might be that his parents held him back and didn't provide him with an outlet for his power. But this makes them rather culpable. Snoke took advantage of their mistakes rather than being the architect of his downfall.

i never wanted Han & Leia to be bad parents and hopefully we learn more. they might have done their best but just couldn't provide the stability Ben probably needed.

Just sounds like to me that they're obviously good people but who didn't (or were unable to) put their child first.

I wouldn't put it past Snoke to help engineer things to help keep Kylo's parents occupied and away. In addition to keeping Kylo's parents occupied, I'm sure such actions probably also could have helped derail the New Republic to an extent, and helped fullfill other goals of his. I'm sure Snoke's the kinda guy that likes to kill as many birds as he can with the one stone. Feints within feints within feints...

I hope Mark Hamill brings the same youthfulness/energy to VIII as he did to these scenes instead of being a "brooding master" ...

It has occurred to me that if Snoke was heavily involved than (EDIT: it's then, whoops) Obi-Wan Kenobi's failure might truly be complete, what with him being partly responsible for Darth Vader _and_ Kylo Ren's fall... I mean, he had the chance to look back on how Palpatine got his hooks into Anakin, yet he couldn't warn Luke to watch out for the same thing when Luke was training Ben? #BlameKenobi

well i think a lot of what you are saying may be true but Ben was only 15 and Rey was only 5 when this occurred I think there may have been troops there and it was supplied by Snoke no doubt but the picture above is not the battle at the temple. I am 100% sure that the battle occurred in a snowy forest environment and Ben Hid Rey in the forest when she was only 5 . This battle above is the future. and in his left hand is Reys light saber. this is a real battle of the future on a different planet.

As you say Kylo was very young at mutiny.
To became a leader of the Clan like knights of Ren one must kill also its former leader.

I am wondering what chatacter will be Benicio del Toro.

There is one theory that Snoke has influenced Anakin trough a serries of stepped events that would lead him to the Dark Side.
First he could have interfered in his virgin birth by somehow influencing his poor mother .
Than he could have organised his mother abduction and murder to ignite Anakin's predisposition to became a Sith, also influencing his dreams.
Than he could have even somehow inluence Anakin in his dreams about death of pregnant Padme,

I somehoiw think that Snoke used same method to turn Ben Solo to the Dark side..

I lot of what you say may be true and Snoke was very involved but this picture is not it. this is a picture of the future. too many bodies and all too large
the academy was where the snowy forest was not the rain besides in this set of pictures Ren is holding Reys light saber in his left hand. In the book when you read about a voice in the snowy woods saying stay here i will come back for you that is 15 year old ben talking to 5 year old Rey the scene was not in the movie probably due to the voices would made it too obvious --besides a 15 year old i dont think would be leading the Knights of Ren. I do not think they would have looked this polished yet if they just had mutinied. I think Snoke did send troops though.
