I feel like Disney has made great efforts to minimize the whole racist/sexist/speciest Empire in the new-canon:

-Rae Sloane rising to the rank of Admiral, and it being established that there are other female Imperial Admirals as well.
-Female Stormtroopers.
-The Lando comic has a female Moff, as does one of the books.
-Mas Amedda being Sheev's right hand man.
-The stuff from TFA.
-Etc.

So yeah, I could see them potentially using Thrawn, especially since they've been pulling bits and pieces from the old EU for years now anyway.

 

Didnt you post this in multiple other forums...I think that they wil draw as needed on the same scaled as Quinlan Vos in ROTS unless Thrawn turns to be the real deal .

 

I'm just going with the situation of the Rebels with Leia. She doesnt mention Jedi and was surprised to see what Kanan can do. Maybe she was amazed to know that the stories her pops told her was real like with Rey/Finn in TFA. Even Kanan was curious with Senator Organa when he thought he said was that a jedi saying. yeah i was talking about the rebels setting up the base cause in the trailer they were talking about finding a spot. so I can see the Rebels with senator and leia to get that started. all i know in R1 is that the plot is to steal the death star plan so that has to be futher into the SW saga and the base is possibly set up. with the R1 trailer they already had it built so that has to be in testing stages and with the rebellion finding out about it and setting R1 to steal it. with Ezra, I would like to see him turn to the darkside. Just like in CW when Ahsoka left you can see how effected Anakin was. then in the Rebels trailer she talks to Anakin through Darth and he tells her why she left and all. So I like how they left Anakin clouded with his emotions during the SW which leads to RoTS. Like to see a Kanan and Ezra fight scene with more using the force than lightsaber.

They created the character around a background character in TPM. Kinda like how Aurra sing first appears in TPM, but isn't really much of a character until the EU got a hold of her.

A few different posts here got me thinking

We know the rebels are looking for a base as that has already come up. We also know from ANH that Dantooine had been abandoned for "some time."

My guess is that during the originally projected 5year run of Rebels, we will see Leia again, on Dantooine, and finally will see Yavin IV set up, which will be the secret base the rebels strike out from in their first victory where the Death Star plans are stolen. It will be a soft lead in from Rebels to Rogue One establishing canon timeline.

I also agree that the reference at the end of Aftermath would be a very tidy way to introduce Thrawn into canon, and the have him conveniently beyond the outer rim during the events of the OT. I first thought Snoke when I read this but BDT as Thrawn would work....

Except...

I am still having a hard time seeing the story group introduce a major character in Rebels and the asking an actor to carry that on in film. It would be too restricting for both the actor and director.

 

I think it's interesting to hear about Ezra... the end of the Season 2 trailer made it seem like he was on the path to the dark side. Could it be clever editing? Also, i would be happy to see Ezra get a different lightsaber I think his current one looks like a staple gun.

 

I actually really like his lightsaber. It's different and of course he'd be pragmatic like that (given his upbringing).

 

Yeah he's seen with A GREEN Crossguard .

 

I think they are trying to tie in artifacts from the past to reflect TFA.

Not sure how I would feel about Thrawn showing up, but I'd love to see the Noghri serving Vader in Rebels.
