Star Wars - make movie based on lots of existing popular stories, buy up all the rights, cross fingers and hope.

Empire Strikes Back - improve on first movie, so get someone who really knows what they're doing, crucial to meet any expectations and seal deal.

Return of the Jedi - make good, not so crucial to meet high expectations, people hooked now, include teddies for newer, younger fans, Kerrching.

Give the youngsters a few more teddies but then wait a long time, let expectations hit fever pitch.

Offer new special versions but sabotage product, create dissatisfaction and desire for the way things used to be, all whilst making lots of money.

Phantom Menace - concentrate on children that fans will bring, include lots of silly juvenile stuff, call very jarring character Jar Jar, laugh to self, more dissatisfaction and pining for the good times created, people watch repeatedly in disbelief, offer hope by finishing on a high. Loadsa money.

Attack of Clones - rinse, repeat, try romantic stuff for tween girls, probably fail, who cares, can put in any old sh*t at this stage, dissatisfaction turns to anger - perfect - the series has been turned on its head, people want the fix more than ever.

Offer chance for good stuff again but sabotage further, huge levels of dissatisfaction created , desire for good times even greater. More profit.

Revenge of the Sith - expectations and morale very low, offer a few olive branches, throw in some good stuff again because kids are growing up, almost good but wait what's this - nooooooooooooooo. Still, plenty of money made again.

Bring back the original movies exactly as they were, but without a picture upgrade, another carrot to dangle, But wait there's ANOTHER upgraded special edition... No, noooo, not again. Probably should sell up at this stage.

Hello Mr. Mouse, 4 Billion you say(slaver, slaver!) thank you very much.

I sense some truth in these first two lines.

Reading this essay on the history of the Millennium Falcon last night really brought home to me how much time, guts, talent and luck was necessary for SW ANH to be as special as it was and enjoy the longevity it has - and how lame a flop it could have been if it relied only on the re-hashing of popular story motifs.
