I preface my post by stating that I absolutely WANT the current saga to continue beyond Episode IX into X-XII. And I think this is what Disney intends to do since the saga IS SW. What I mean is that, sure, there is this vast galaxy to explore which I'm all for. BUT I think the bread and butter, the feeling of urgency and importance, rests with the main storyline.

I think the spinoffs are a great idea in order to flesh-out some smaller characters stories (IE Boba Fett), but I fear these movies will lack the importance of the grand scheme that is the battle vs the Dark Side and the evil Empire. Now, I don't mean this to say that I think the main storyline has to be exclusively about a Skywalker or Solo but can branch off from there with characters unrelated by blood, which I suspect well see during the ST.

That said, I think we'll see a new series started during the time of the Old Republic, a sort of Lord of the Rings for the Star Wars universe as well as the spinoffs and then eventually Disney will start Episodes X-XII.

Remember, Disney wanted to have their own SW-style franchise with the phenomenal bomb John Carter of Mars, so they were doing proverbial backflips when George sold Lucasfiilm to Disney. Also recall that George said, “We have a large group of ideas and characters and books and all kinds of things,” Lucas said. “We could go on making ‘Star Wars’ for the next 100 years.”

I think Disney hears "Ch-ching" when they think of all the movies they can make. Besides, if James Bond can have like 26 movies then so can Star Wars. However, I agree with those that doubt George Lucas wrote treatments for Episodes X-XII. I don't believe he did although he had considered it at one point.

Totes agree... another Skywalker-led trilogy is inevitable beyond the ST.

I liken the Skywalker films to the 'mythology' episodes of the X Files, while spin offs will be more 'monster of the week' starring non-Skywalkers.

What excites me most about spin-offs is the potential to play with other genres. A western for Obi-Wan, a road trip/heist film for a young Han and Lando, a giant monster film for Boba Fett... all set in the SW universe.

In my dreams, we'd get an amazing revenge tale similar to the greatest adventure novel of all time The Count of Monte Cristo set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

if there is a sequel sequel trilogy, I'd like to see it be similar to the Cade Skywalker stories in the Star wars Legacy comics. A reluctant hero fighting a Sith empire. bring Ania solo into the storyline so it would be the cousins rather than brother and sister. it could be epic.
