Just the ones I know well enough:
Spielerg: Pacing would have been slower, but it would have felt even more like the OT because of his respect for it
Tarantino: We would have had our first rated R Star Wars film, it would have been ridiculous. I'm a huge fan of Tarantino but his style does NOT fit SW
Cameron: He started filmmaking because of Star Wars, but with movies like Avatar under his belt, I think the CG would have been even more of a mess than the PT
Nolan: I think this would have been amazing, the overall story would be a lot more character based, even though this one already was, and he would have had a true struggle for each of the characters to overcome
Ridley Scott: Not much would be different but the scene with the Rathtars would have actually felt intimidating

 

If I had to choose random directors, I'd pick: Ben Affleck, Lawrence Kasdan, Chris Evans, Kathryn Bigelow, Tim Miller, Bryan Singer, George Lucas, Ian Rao, Will Bigham, JJ Abrams (oh wait) .

 

George Miller would make an amazing star wars movie. Mad Max Fury Road was awesome the best action film in years.

 

Peter Jackson was my first choice, even before they announced there would be a 7th one

1. Steven Spielberg - Snoke would be played by Tom Hanks. Harrison Ford would have bullied a young Ben. He'd make the audience cry like little girls when Han dies. It may be set in an era representing World War II. The Resistance would be the Americans, of course. There'd be one really long take when Rey and Finn escape Jakku.

2. Clint Eastwood - Han Solo would be the lead. Finn would have been a peasant. Rey would have been more masculine and essentially a female cast in a male role. The emphasis would have been more on war and an old grizzled man's quest to deal out justice to the lawless reaches of space. Rey would be his protege.

3. David Fincher - Kylo Ren and Rey would be the same person.

4. Quentin Tarantino - All the characters would say ****** a lot. By the end of the film EVERYONE has artificial limbs since they've been hacked to pieces. There would be a lot of monologues breaking the fourth wall and referring to pop culture.

5. James Cameron - The Millennium Falcon would sink into Starkiller Base. Finn would die as Rey tries to grab his hand. Kylo's sent back in time to kill her.

6. Christopher Nolan - Princess Leia's dead and Han Solo feels guilty about the part he played in it. No one can understand Kylo Ren. It may all just be Rey's dream.

7. Ridley Scott - Rey would be even stronger than she is right now, but probably bald. Finn is a human looking robot. Luke would be in a grave on the island. The First Order would be a Mega Corp. Han Solo would have his head chopped off. We'd see lots more establishing shots of every location. There would be a director's cut.

8. Alfred Hitchcock - Rey would be afraid of milk or something weird. Poe would be secretly gay. Han Solo's death would have a weird detail that makes it funny. Instead of Daniel Craig, Rey would use her mindtrick on a fat British stormtrooper. Kylo dresses as Princess Leia and talks to her instead of Vader. He's afraid of her. We later find out that she's dead.

 

I think we're confusing Directors with writers here. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving these hypothetical plot lines, but the Director really has a lot less control over the plot than people in this thread seem to be thinking.

 

Typically when a director comes on board, he will have creative input in the script to ensure he can do it justice. It is in very very rare circumstances that a director is just brought into such an important franchise film and told 'this is the script, shoot it and go'. Except maybe Richard Marquand...

 

If Quentin Tarantino directed star wars the charicters would say the N word 40 times.
