I don't think they are. Completely different types of beard hair going on. Unless the hair on the left is something else.

 

This image also, IMO, confirms that Luke is not a cyborg. I also think that we will see Luke, clean shaven and back to his normal (sane) self at the end of the film.

I'm new here, but I went digging in his twitter photos and found a bunch of photos taken in UAE as well as at Pinewood, including one of the Falcon under construction. I've been 'wearing' a beard for just over 3 years now. I can tell you that the left side of my beard grows in completely different than the right side.

 

As have I. But not that different. Those are completely different lengths and types of hair

 

An elegant wookiee for a more civilized age? Chewie in robes?

Also, Gabriel Gray tweeted not too long ago, that he was "looking an image of Mark Hamill as Luke from EP7". This was most likely segments he cropped from that image.

 

Look here is Hamill's beard at its craziest. IF they are the same image split then the one on the left should be higher up along his face.

 

It's quite possible they augmented his beard during filming... beard extensions you could say.

Yeah.... take a close look at best the image of the beard that is supposed to be the "left" is his sideburns area. Or it could be a different person who is bad! The "right side" of the image is Luke no doubt though
