In The Star Wars, Crispin Hoedaack (who would become Tarkin in the final draft) is a young, newly-appointed governor who seeks to take over the Empire and Darth Vader is a general who serves him. Vader isn't a Force-user or a combatant, instead just being a general. Hoedaack dies the same way that Tarkin does in ANH (including refusing to evacuate when he's warned to), but I'm not sure what becomes of Vader (who is the one to warn Hoedaack to evacuate). Maybe General Hux is a combination of the Hoedaack and Vader characters from The Star Wars?

After seeing the movie I am glad he likely made it out alive. I look forward to greater battle between Hux and Kylo in Episode VIII :D

I can tell that General Hux is very wise.I notice that Hux and Kylo was in some kind of..."I'm more better and bad than you" thing. He is very evil in my opinion. He convince Snoke to destroy and use the Star Killer base against the republic.I think he will die in SW 9 in my opinion.

I doubt it's worth killing Hux, after seeing his several arguments with Kylo I'm glad he lived, his announcing for ''Supreme Leader'' he has soon become the sith personal announcer.

I'm surprised he made it out, but I'm interested to see where things go from here with him.

My sense of things (given what we knew before the release) is that Hux was originally intended to die, and Ren's fate was supposed to be uncertain.
In the scene in which Hux speaks to Snoke, MSW explicitly reported that Hux went down with the base while being chastised by Snoke.

My guess is that JJ et al eventually realized this was too confusing (would seem that Ren died on Starkiller; he had the crap beat out of him by Rey and was left for dead), and had Serkis record the new line for Snoke instead "Leave the planet at once with Kylo Ren, I will complete his training." (not verbatim, I forget the exact line). It seemed tacked on to me so that it would be clearer to the audience that Ren survived.

KK's announcement that "everyone" will be returning for Ep 8 likely means Hux and Phasma are back.

Made my day! That would be an unexpected twist- and it absolutely makes sense...

I want him to start a civil war against Benicio del Torro's character. But I don't want him to die. I want him to be the terror for ages to come.

I'm pretty certain Hux won't be dead and I think they'll play on the Hux/Ren relationship a lot more in the next film.
Perhaps after being ordered to get Ren and leave the planet Hux could have taken his opportunity and left without Ren for example. Ren having to make his own way off the planet could escalate the tension between them further. I'm guessing it will be Kylo Ren that kills Hux too.

    SPOILER:
I saw TFA a few weeks ago.
I got the impression General Hux would be killed on either the Finalizer ship or the Star Killer Base, along with Captain Phasma.

Neither character now seems to be KIA or deceased. ;)
I also found the tension & animosity with Kylo Ren strange. Why would these 2 be at odds? Is Kylo Ren more important to Snoke then Hux or The First Order?

Maybe the relationship or Hux's background will be detailed later.

They are part of the smae organisation but the methods and tools differ. Kylo is more a religious spiritual guy Hux is a technocrat , those two traits are like fire and ice and both are rivaling for Snoke's attention and, in the end, power.

i would like Hux to be the real villain, ultimately.

he can die horrifically in ix. and i still want Finn to take him out.
