You know when I first read the title, I thought that this would be a humor thread. But you may be on to something...

Could Lobot be considered a pirate, like MVS is rumored to be? I would think that for all intents and purposes, any right hand man of Lando could be considered one.

At the age of 15, his father was killed when their ship was boarded bypirates. Lobot served as the pirates' slave for two years before he escaped to Cloud City in the gas giant of Bespin.[1]

    From Star Wars wiki....pirates interesting!

I believe the rumor that he's 'connected' to the prequels is only due to his age in the film. Say he's called, oh I don't know, Montross, and he was Han's co-pilot/smuggler/friend before Chewbacca, long before Episode IV.

Lobot is a good guess, but it requires some suspension of disbelief or retconning because he's pretty wooden in ESB. He's practically Lando's droid slash manservant in Cloud City, except for that one sly look he gives Lando.

Lobot would be interesting, but I thought the whole point to that character was that he's mute. That might explain that rambling sentences he's supposed to utter to Daisy, though.

MVS my wild speculation is that Dengar the bandaged and armored bounty hunter in Empire. He also appears in Jedi and with the Bounty Hunters running with young Boba in Clone Wars. Perhaps he even knew little orphan Ani when he went by the name Kitster.

This fits all the SpoilerMan rumors floated. Considering there is talk of a Bounty Hunters try to steal Death Star plans spinoff and a Boba Fett (possibly separate spin off),

    Agreed!

If the desert planet we are seeing is Tatooine and where MVS and Daisy meet - then it would make sense that he is there because that is where we last saw him (in the movies) - at Jabba's palace in ROTJ. After Jabba and Boba's death, he might have become a hermit - but it doesn't explain how he ended up with more cybernetic enhancements than the last time we saw him. If it's him - he must have had more adventures - fighting - disasters since ROTJ.

If Daisy inherited the Falcon (since you see it in scaffolds in the leaked concepts near her) and is pretending not to be a Solo kid - then it would also make sense why he has taken an interest in her and may still be a neutral/evil pirate character.

There are plenty of things that can go wrong for a bounty hunter on Tatooine. Injured when Luke blew up Jabba's Party Barge. Had to go work for other gangsters popping around for another 15-20 before settling down and going into semi retirement on Tatooine. Its still dangerous though how often does the local cantina have blaster fire or an arm severing. Also running around the Jungland Wastes looking for lost tech can be dangerous you might run into who knows how many sand people, cause you know they ride single file to hide their numbers.

This actually seems on of the more logical speculations as to which *existing* character he could portray, if one goes simply by physical attributes and rumors of cybernetics. Although I do kind of like the Dengar suggestion posted in this thread as well.

That and Lando has supposedly said "You think Lobot's mute, but he's just too busy talking to the central computer to bother speaking to us 'organics'."
(yes, I think it's the old EU or even just from one of the various reference books... Got it from Lobot's Wookieepedia article... still food for thought)

    Max Von Lobot playing Montross.

    Interesting.

    Spin off movie about Lobot?

I like the Lobot idea. However, what about:

    1. Why is (the girl) staying with, employed by, or otherwise knowledgable of him?
-- is she old enough to be out on her own?
-- or was she left there under this guy's care?
-- if she was left there, and if she is a solo, then they must trust this guy. Why?

    2. Assuming she finds Luke's ANH / ESB saber, and assuming he recognizes it, how can he? Where has he seen it before?

    3. If he simply recognizes it as a saber, does je then send her to...mos eisley maybe...to find Han because he could answer questions? If so, then...again...how does he know Han?

    4. Or what if I have it backwards and she lives with Han (in mos eisley maybe) and goes to see MVS because he is the old wise guy in the desert? And what he tells her kicks off the search for Luke?

Hmm...i will leave it at that. Just my thoughts.

    -O

This is one of the more interesting ideas I've seen on this site. I love the idea of Max Von Sydow's character connected to the movies in some way rather than some book I'll never read.

It's a nice idea, MvS being Lobot, but how would that be made clear unless he appeared with Lando? Lobot never spoke, so there's no voice recognition to be had. Neither was his name ever mentioned in the movies, so for the casual SW fan his reappearance would be hard to establish without tiresome expositional dialogue along the lines of "During my time as adjunct to the administrator of a gas station in orbit around Bespin...." Okay, so he could have the wrap-around headset thing, but most people would probably either miss the reference, assume the character was a similar 'type' or brush it off as lack of originality.

No. MvS is playing Kitster. Get used to it.... :D

That's a good point. I had to look up Kitster. He was in the Star Wars movie with the most tiresome expositional dialogue in the universe.

Interesting points. Just some friendly thoughts:

    1) I'd simply say "Lando vouched for him."
    2) Supposedly he had access to the central computer for Cloud City. I'd imagine he had a good idea of what was happening within its walls, who was who, and could perhaps access footage stored in some cybernetic attachment of his.
    3) Again, through Lando perhaps. A lot could have happened in 30 years. I know we don't see him after EPV, but they could've stayed in contact and he could've worked with the Rebellion in some form.
    4) Hm, that seems the most "coincidental" theory for this. I hope it's not as simple as that.

Not saying I think it's Lobot. Just stating why I can see the OP would have reason to think so. ;)
