Kylo Ren's hood & tattered cape = emperor palpatine's?

Oh, yeah yeah. I don't think it's the Emperor's robe either. That's why I said it's likely Vader's cape Kylo got from Endor, same place he got Vader's helmet. Look a few posts up.

Palpatine's cloak was not destroyed in the Death Star explosion because he was so desperate to preserve his trademark style that as he was falling he used all of his remaining power to Force Push his clothes through the open half of the unfinished Death Star and way out into uninhabited space. Knowing that someday, a worthy successor would find them and continue his legacy. That's why he keeps shooting lightning while he's falling, he's so busy calculating the micro-forces required to disrobe using the Force that he doesn't even have a chance to tell his fingers to stop channeling dark energy. In fact, if you look really closely on the ROTJ Blu-ray you can see his clothes start to fly off a few milliseconds before he disappears....

It does seems highly likely there will be Sith artifacts involved in this new trilogy other than Vader's helmet, but his cape is the wrong material to be what Kylo is wearing as any part of his outfit. Plus it'd probably be the first thing to go up in flames. I do still think Kylo's tattered hoodie thing has something odd to it, though. It's clearly a separate piece from the rest of his getup, which is otherwise tidy. Maybe the Emperor had multiple cloaks (it'd actually be pretty gross if he didn't).

My thoughts exactly. I'm hoping they don't leave Coruscant out of the new films for fear of referencing the PT. It really is one of the most fascinating worlds in the Star Wars universe, IMO, not to mention key to galactic events. At the very least it looks possible we still may get our live action series that primarily takes place there:

Is Kylo also wearing Darth Maul's belt buckle and Dooku's underpants?

Darth Maul didn't have a belt buckle, just a waist sash that should've been lightsaber proof, and Dooku went commando.

Makes sense. In portuguese, Dooku sounds like someone saying "From ass".

Not to shift topics but when Kylo Ren faces off with light sabers with the untrained Finn, (duel) he's not wearing his hood-cowl or his metal face mask.
It clearly looks like actor Adam Driver from the back based on his hair & height.
I noticed this bit while watching the latest The Force Awakens spot(China version).
This makes me think either Kylo has his mask damaged then removes it or he feels the need to expose his "true identity".

Except that the entire suit was flame retardant, including the cape. The mask survived. So the cape could've survived. But Anakin's body ... cremated. Or became one with the Force. Whatever. I bet you anything the Flametrooper armor is fireproof, too. If we can have Firefighters in the real world with flame and temperature resistant suits, Darth Vader's suit definitely was, including the cape. You're basically saying the Empire didn't have the technology to make a flame-resistant cape.

I was thinking that too...even if it isn't the same weave as his. Just like Vader's helmet was different in ANH. Maybe they could not get the exact fabric and of course didn't want to cut up one of the originals.

G.L. says there's no underwear in space. Just ask Carrie Fisher.

Well, not that, but of his mask was fire proof, it would have have looked the same instead hiring melted .

Easily explained by not being designed to be fireproof for long periods of time but useful for intense heat in a battle, such as blasts and explosions and flamethrowers. Cooking it on the funeral pyre oven for hours and it's gonna melt. The cape is also going to be damaged from prolonged heat but still survive.
