I'm going with blue. Many months ago I speculated that Kylo as a possibly Solo/Skywalker was given the Anakin/Luke saber just as it was passed to Luke by Obi Wan. He lost it at some point during his fall to the dark side and wanted it back ( this was during the speculation that the light saber was the being sought after). I still think that may be the case given the "that weapon is mine quote"

I chose blue as its a "safe" bet. I disagree with the notion of building a lightsabre being a final test. In the PT padawans built, carried and used them. As far as I know the final tests were "The Trials".

Maybe because The armoire and The FO mined out the actual kyber Krystal's and KR/BS was basically getting the scraps/left overs .

The Sith made synthetic crystals as red doesn't grow naturally like blue and green crystals. Luke however used a synthetic to make his green ROTJ saber as he was unable to obtain a natural crystal. That would mean, theoretically, that one is able to artificially make any color crystal you want.

I was sure that this was the official canon for years but this might be legends now. Don't know if they used to merge EU and film canon info but if they did, I'm pretty sure this was found on the official site. Went back and read both starwars.com and wookieepedia and there's nothing about this now!!?
It almost seem that they changed old canon stuff. I guess they can do that as the colors and construction of a lightsaber is never explained in any film.
Someone has got to know what's what. Please comment.
And sorry for wrongful info if so. I was really sure about this. Well, I'm an ass...

Lol no worries, this same thing happened to me last night. I was talking about how General Grievous was programmed to fight like the way that he did. I tried to find the source information but it's been completely retconned into Grievous simply being trained .
