They didn't give it a big push. It wasn't an expensive film by modern standards (70m) and is now over 100m box office world wide so they're probably close to break even with how little marketing they did.

After seeing JW - Fallen Kingdom again, i have to say that it is a beautifull movie with some great directions from J.A. Bayona.

    (SPOILER WARNING)

The screenplay on the other hand, was very weak. It had some awesome moment (Brachiosaurus, T-Rex, Mosasaurus, ...) , but overall, not that great (the kid beeing a clone, weak villains, some terrible dialogue, ...).

At the moment, this is my ranking of the JP films:
    1. JP
    2. TLW
    3. JW
    4. JW - FK
    5. JP3

I'm glad Trevorrow was kicked-off Ep IX, especially as a writer.

Watched Brothers Bloom to round up Rian Johnson's filmography. On the plus side, it's creative, has interesting characters, Rian's unique cinematography and attention to details. On the minus side, tha movie has pacing issues and while it does come together at the end, I feel like the final act could be done better. Overall, a good, but flawed movie. Probably Rian's "worst", but this ain't saying much, since his other movies are very good.

    My third viewing of SOLO.
For me this film gets more enjoyable every time I see it.
Also it was absolutely packed (Which always helps with a Star Wars film)
The 3 other in my group this was there first time & all put this ahead of both TFA & TLJ bit they also really liked R1 so ESP IX is going to be interesting to see how they react to it.

Rewatched Deadpool 2. I even loved it more than the first time i saw it. What a great movie. Brolin is great as Cable and Julian Dennison is such a great, young actor. I first saw him in this movie and after seeing him in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, i think we are going to see him alot.

I still think i like this one more than the first one, but to be sure, i have to see it a couple of times more.

Yeah same here, but the first time I saw it as a kid I didn't. Probably because my friend told me it was "like Star Wars" and I was pissed off that it wasn't JUST like Star Wars. And I didn't care for the computer effects at first, I thought they looked so much more fake than the models I loved so much and was a little too young to grasp just how great those effects were for the time. Though after that initial pissiness toward it I warmed to the film pretty quickly. I love the Halloween connection too, director Nick Castle being the original Michael Myers, Lance Guest was Jimmy in Halloween II and Dan O'Herlihy (Grig) played Cochran in Halloween III.

It's a weird thing for me. I can't actually recall the first time that I saw TLS. I can recall the sensation of the first time that I saw it; I was excited and blown away, but I can't recall when it was or where it was. I know it was on VHS because I lived on an island in the middle of no-where Alaska (at least, in the 1980's, it was the middle of no-where) and that film didn't hit the local theater, but I can't recall much beyond that.

What I do recall was that, for me, at about 6 years old or so, that film was way bigger and more impressive to me than Star Wars in terms of a space adventure film because there was actually a massive amount of space battle and sci-fi stuff going on because that was the entire point of the show.
I loved Star Wars more, but if I wanted a romp of science fiction action, I wasn't reaching for Star Wars - I was reaching for TLS, because TLS was the result of Star Wars impacting science fiction. It was like everything Star Wars had done in terms of space action, rolled up and tossed into one film and then attempted at a faster pace and intensity.

Looking back, damn. TLS is one hell of a follow-up.
I think it speaks volumes that Castle constantly checked left and right against Lucas and Spielberg and then tried to make his film different so it wasn't superficially so close to their respective works since it was tonally already going to be.

You can basically take Close Encounters, E.T., and Star Wars, and culminate them into becoming The Last Starfighter.

In fact, it's so much a mashing of these things, that it's eerie in what ways Castle intuited some things that would be coming from Spielberg next; chiefly, Back to the Future. There's more than a few scenes which have an interesting aesthetic and tonal similarity in Starfighter with Back to the Future, even though the latter was in production while the former was hitting theaters (meaning, neither Castle or Spielberg were likely able to have been copying the other's aesthetics or beats).

It's just a good testament to Castle, really. He saw a video arcade, thought, 'Huh. Wouldn't a Spielberg-Lucasesque Arthurian Sword in the Stone story wrapped around a video game and space combat be interesting?', and then set off to build exactly that and well...nailed it.

And to answer your question Castle...yes! Yes that would be interesting! Thank you for making it!

    Cheers,
    Jayson

    Circus World (Henry Hathaway, 1964).

It's been a couple of years since i saw this movie. I loved this movie as a kid and saw it almost every time i went to my grandparents (they had a French dubbed vhs recording of the movie), and i still love it.

John Wayne kills it again (he is one of my all-time favorite actors) and the music is iconic.

Watched it together with @NinjaRen : The Thing (the remake with Kurt Russel)

Oh wait, that's not true, the last movie we watched was La La Land xD beautiful shot film with a perfect ending. The performances from Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were okay, I've enjoyed the piano/ singing parts more than the dancing.
