I minored in philosophy at college so as much as I would love to join in destroying this thread, I will refrain. Hume's skepticism even doubted experience at points. LOL. I understand though what you mean. There are things we can for the most part say are likely but until they are proved they are . . ..well unproven.

Let me say this another way. I have a hard time saying someone is wrong based on unproven ideas even. Call me soft but just take the longer way and say I think that is unlikely. . . . nuance probably.

Just curious...Why would Andy serkis play Darth Maul? Did ray park die or something?

I know somebody else voiced darth maul for the movies but it would seem like a big waste to use the best motion capture actor in the business just for a voiceover.

Likely due to a few things (if true):

    1. They didn't use Ray's voice in TPM anyway and many years later you would assume it would sound different.

    2. Park was used for his athletic skills, which Maul likely wouldn't need in this scenario.

    3. Robotic legs and old age, it needs to be mocapped anyway so why not go ahead and have Andy perform the dark vengeful master version of Maul?

I'm not a big fan of Hume haha. Sartre is actually my go to guy. My university required its students to take a ton of philosophy courses no matter our major. I'm well aware I gave a rather ineffective explanation of Kant's thesis but I tried and that gets you maybe a C- where I come from haha.

If you want to give people the benefit of the doubt that isn't wrong, I'm just rather mean when saying I think something is total BS honestly

@Shawshank yeah I know about the voice thing, I posted that.

However, that is a really good point about not needing Ray park for any acrobatics anymore. I never thought about that.

I guess using him for mo-cap makes sense, you might as well just slap the make up on him too

All that being said, I don't believe Darth Maul or any old villains will be popping up in TFA. I truly believe they want new characters as well as new villains. The big 3 are enough to pass the torch IMO

If someone is training new Soth though, there would need to be someone that actually knows what he's doing...Maul does fit that...I'm just not sure they would go though route

(Admittedly very very cool IF done very very well)

Continuing with more wild speculation. I think overall they are borrowing from the story of Exar Kun. He was a Jedi who sought out Sith artifacts and eventually stumbled on a long dead Sith who shared some secrets and after a short time. He destroyed his master before killing lots of jedi. He was defeated by Nomi Sunrider (sounds like Rey). Now even if this is part of their story i am sure it will be very different, but I wanted you to have it in mind.

What if Rebel pilot Kylo Ren the anti-Luke in his sith scavenger hunt finds the lair of the pathetic creature that was once Darth Maul (the anti-Obi-Wan)? Maul starts him on his journey to a larger and darker world. But in proper Sith fashion kills his master. He now strikes out with greater purpose new power.

Your over confidence is your weakness, just because something seems not there does not mean that it isn't. Most secrets are hidden in plain site..........

Although am not suggesting these spoilers are legit in anyway though..........

You know a lot more about this stuff than most of us, but 99.9% not Tatooine? What about the Kirby Buckets kid asking "do you recognize this planet" (or something to that affect) on that clip after the Rebels marathon? I would say that could be implied that it is Tatooine based on that comment. The only other possibility would be Lothal, as it appears to be somewhat desert like and would be the recognizable to those who just watched the Marathon.

I am curious what your input on this is? Also since you are so sure it is not Tatooine, do you know what planet it is?

I love this post. It's probably the first theory that makes go "whaaa....oh my."

Anti-Luke and Anti-Kenobi....Darkside training etc...as a script writer, I'm now a little jealous I hadn't come up with this before now...I want to see this happen, and I want it to be Maul because of the canonicity of his survival and, if anyone would have a grudge to hold against all sides, it would be him. Make the darkside a thing.

Thanks I can't take all the credit the anti luke or dark mirror idea. That is one of the things that I love about the boards the collaboration.

Yeah with no mention of G. Christie's character or the Weasley kid, I'm thinking this is all made up stuffz.

We're less than a year out now. We should be seeing real stuffz. Not all made up stuffz.

    Fun!

    Indeed.

    Two notes:

    1. Gwendoline Christie could very well be Kylo Driver, which means she is accounted for.

    2. NO ONE knows who or what Domnhall Gleason is playing in TFA. There have been some scant rumors, everything from he's Luke's secret son to he's a showy Imperial officer who romances Rey to he is a clone of Sheev.

Personally I think he must be part of the giant mystery involving Act 3. No one has touched Act 3 for some time now.

Everyone seems to have resigned themselves to one of these endings: either Luke winds up the villain, or Kylo is defeated but takes up the cybernetic mantle and vows to return etc. But no one is really accounting for Weaselly! Hmm...

Maybe he's Luke's old apprentice who dies in an accident, causing Luke to question his powers and go into hiding. And that's it. One scene. Then dead. There's always THAT reason for why we haven't heard anything about his role... could be 'blink and you miss him.'

I thought the same thing that Christie, Gwendoline could BE Kylo Ren ("Kylo" being neither masculine or feminine but is half of the name of a pretty good almost one hit wonder band "Kilo Riley".............wait....that's "Rilo Kiley")

The thing is, she was announced so late in the game that I just assumed the major stack of bad news would come from the original cast announcement. Maybe she was signed on way early, but JJ's infernal (and AWESOME) mystery box is at play.

    This could be a thing.

Yep. It will be fun as hell to analyze the initial media they shared with us AFTER the film comes out.

My take on Mystery Box thus far:

The seating arrangement for that first cast picture was likely a misdirect to get us to think X is clearly Y and Z's daughter since X is seated between them. Also, "well A, B, and C are missing from the cast shot, so they must have smaller roles"... also likely a misdirect.

The Topps style card featuring Kylo Ren with a caption indicating "his lightsaber"... also a misdirect... though technically at that point in the film, the few people who see Kylo will also have assumed the hooded figure was male.

I'll up your ante, adult-in-a-bee-suit: Kylo's card is number 67 yeah? Order 66? Is he to carry out Order 67?

I just did that after a few cocktails. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

    BANG!!
