I don't want to say that he lost his credibility, but after this safe "copy and paste job" I will take his words with a grain of salt.

Well Kasdan is weird....so weird calling something weird is.....(weird)x2/(OT LK-Unknown % of credibility lost by not really doing anything creative in TFA)........carry the 2.....(parsecs as a derivative of time and distance)........avg. # of limbs lost yearly in the GFFA + LK infected with GL like senility and we arrive at:

Who gives a rats patootie? We'll all watch it, love it, laugh, cry, and get goosebumps. Then nitpick it to death on the forum. And I'm sorry but LK never struck me as someone with great taste. I mean he GUSHED over TFA script and it definitely was average. Got the job done but left a lot to be desired. So I could care less what he thinks. Now if Liam Neeson said something I would care; who wouldn't?

Episode 8 is going to be tricky.... 'The Force Awakens' gets away with been a homage to 'A New Hope", Episode 8 can not be a homage to "The Empire Strikes Back", it has to take the story in a new direction, while still retaining the feel of what we all love about the star wars universe...... this is where we see if star wars has a long term future on the big screen... its very exciting!!!!

Weird isn't bad. In fact, I'd like to see the ST explore new territory even more than TFA (even though it has tons of similarities to ANH, it actually did explore new territory), so long as it remains faithful to SW roots. That way all 3 trilogies will feel more congruent.

One thing we can appreciate about the prequels - like them or hate them - is that in the overarching story they give context to how a very foreign world, the Old Republic, became the world we're introduced to in ANH. Just as RotS is our strongest link between the very different PT and OT, I want to see TFA serve the same purpose.

This is admittedly a somewhat scary thing to say, considering how I like my SW to feel "correct." But despite my purist tendencies, I think SW fans should generally be more receptive to new material and in return may receive some pleasant surprises. However, if VIII has "icky icky goo!" or "dellow felegates" written all over it, then we have a problem...

Were gonna get a mix of Star Wars and Monty Python for Eps8. The protagonists to the Knights of Ren will be the Knights Who Say Ni!

You know that is hyperbole right? I mean there are no defecting Stormtroopers in ANH. Death Star shenanigans are in act 2 in ANH and very different from the tomfoolery that happens at the Starkiller base. There are similarities but beat for beat is not true by any stretch. If for not other reason that moments that are call backs, and or allusions to ANH take place in very different order.

Agree 100%. TFA has callbacks to the entire OT, not just ANH. When watching the movie, I never felt like I was watching ANH. In my opinion, this was Han and Chewie's best film. There was NOTHING like Kylo in the OT and he owned his scenes. Rey is so freaking adorable, she goes from badass street tough to giddie as a little girl when offered a job with Han. All of that was NEW and done to perfection.

I think the folks that simply say it's a copy of ANH are just pure lazy in their assessment.

I've not yet seen even ONE person prove this. Yes, there are some similarities, but beat for beat, nah. Prove it.

Across forums there are some who echo a few reviews who claim this and even they have yet to prove this. Please take ANH and TFA side by side and prove it is beat for beat because I call BS.

Ep VIII will be "weird" because it might be told in a disjointed timeline manner. I could see us bouncing between time in the story. We start on Micheal Skellig to see Luke & Rey's initial interaction. Then we jump across the galaxy to watch Ren train with Snoke. Then we jump back in time to see Ren destroying the Jedi academy. Then we're back to now with Rey & Luke training. Then it's back in time to the formation of the First Order & the schism btw the Republic and Resistance. Then back to now with Ren & Snoke discovering where Luke & Rey are.

I never said they weren't but the film does a great job avoiding the weird sci-fi tendency to over explain things.

For example, Kylo gets shot by Chewie's bow caster, kills his dad, gets worn down by Finn, then beat by Rey. Instead of saying "I feel bad about killing my dad" or "ouch. The wookie hurt." It's shown through his acting. The only weak part during the ending was the cutaway to Finn and Rey before Han falls. JJ could've trusted the audience how to feel more until after Han was gone.

That's much easier to slide than a lengthy exposition on blood cells.

Weird things we haven't seen in the saga yet...

1-Time Travel. (Kylo's new head wound looks a lot like Snoke's head wound!)

    2-Essence Transfer (Plagueis Lives)

    3- Hybrid aliens (Snoke?)

4-Cloned Jedi/Sith ( you know you love the Thrawn trilogy)

    5-Palpatine's Offspring

6-Darth Jar Jar ( please no!)

If a script writer used the word "weird" to describe a script that is generally not the best sign. Marketing is involved in those movies, extreme heavy obscene marketing strategies. You had people involved in TFA ONLY make positive statements praising it. If a person still being somewhat involved with Disney just describes it as "weird" this COULD almost be seen as "well I don't really dig it, but I can't say it's blast. I'm suppose to say it's great but I don't think so. So I just say "weird" that could be interpreted in all directions"

We also have not seen much use of onscreen flashbacks. Other than Rey's vision in TFA what we have seen so far has been a linear timeline.
