    maybe they have a ton of 80s themes to make it more cohesive to GOTG since that is becoming the most financially successful franchise very quickly for them besides star wars

    Not at all. Thor Ragnarok is embracing the comics more than its previous installments. Jack Kirby and Walt Simonson, who produced the best Thor comics, have plenty of wacky, colourful adventures. This is the Kirbyfication of the MCU.

    Secondly, Guardians becoming the most financially successful franchise? Not a chance so long as the Avengers films still exist.

    Part of it has to do with marketing, I want to say. All the "nerds" who grew up in the 70s / 80s soaking up all of this in comic book form now, as adults, get to see their favorite heroes brought to life (and in extraordinary fashion) on the big screen. So there is that nostalgia factor. Kind of how "Stranger Things" is 80s themed and is such a huge success. Maybe a coincidence, but maybe not. They chose that decade for a reason. And, look at how they are doing "real life" versions of The Jungle Book and The Lion King... coincidence that everyone who watched those Disney cartoon movies as kids and grew up with that are now adults in their 20s and 30s? Nahhh, it's nostalgia, man. Everyone is after it!

    Case in point- I want to see the new Power Rangers movie solely for this reason.

    I just couldn't get into GOTG, something about it didn't click, especially after everything I'd heard about it and the hype

    Part of me wishes SW had as diverse leading characters as GotG does. Like, the excessive human factor in the SW world makes it so much more relatable, but there are so many different aliens in the galaxy...

    I'm really hoping we get more of this in the future. Rogue One teased it with these guys, but didn't deliver.
